Congratulations on the amazing efforts in co-existence with snow leopards at Hemis National Park!

We are proud to have met in Ladakh in February this year. Well done Khenrab!

In the frozen heights of Himachal and Ladakh, a quiet miracle is unfolding… ā„ļøšŸ†

The elusive snow leopards—often called the ā€œghosts of the mountainsā€ā€”are making a remarkable return, with their population rising significantly in recent years.

Behind this change are silent heroes like Khenrab Phuntsog.

For over two decades, he has walked some of the harshest terrains on Earth—rescuing 47 snow leopards, often with nothing more than a net and a blanket.
Where others saw danger… he saw coexistence.

His work has turned conflict into compassion—
saving both animals and communities.

In Hemis National Park, spread across 3,350 sq km, the snow leopard population has grown to around 60—up from just 11 in 2012.

This isn’t just conservation.
It’s a shift—from protection to partnership.

But the journey isn’t over.

Climate change, habitat loss, and human conflict still threaten their survival.
Yet, with guardians like Khenrab and aware communities standing strong—hope continues to breathe in these mountains.

Because some heroes don’t wear uniforms…
they walk silently, protecting the wild.

šŸŒ™ Into the Wild Night: Leopard Cat Encounter šŸŒ™
āš ļø Only 6 places left!

Step quietly into the hidden world of Singapore’s elusive wildcat…

The leopard cat may be the size of a domestic cat, but don’t be fooled — it’s a sleek, nocturnal hunter with a tail half its body length and eyes that shimmer in the dark. Most active at dusk, dawn, and midnight, this rare feline is one of Singapore’s most mysterious residents — with fewer than 50 individuals believed to remain.

✨ What to expect:
• A guided night walk through Ubin’s rustic kampong paths and forest trails
• The thrill of spotting the glowing eyes of a leopard cat
• Encounters with incredible nocturnal wildlife of you’re lucky:
– Greater mousedeer
– Common palm civet
– Sleeping birds & butterflies
– Foraging fruit bats
– Snakes, mangrove creatures & more

🌌 Feel the cool night air. Hear the forest come alive.

This week, SWAG was honoured to be part of NTU Biodiversity Week. šŸŒ¼šŸ¦œšŸ†

There, we drew the attention of the NTU community to our work to conserve Singapore’s few remaining Leopard Cats.

It was heartening and hopeful to see NTU students and staff pause and learn more through the exhibits there.

Opportunities such as these remind us that as long as we continue to share about our endangered wildcats, we definitely still stand a chance of conserving them for many more years to come.

Thank you to NTU Earthlink for inviting us to join!

thank you for sharing!

Well done Jabatan PERHILITAN Semenanjung Malaysia Traffic Southeast Asia , the courts and all other agencies and organisations who worked hard to bust and sentence this group of wildlife traffickers, giving voice to the voiceless.

A Malaysian Court has issued close to MYR129 million in fines (USD32 million) and a total of over 74 years jail in an historic reckoning for three Vietnamese nationals caught with about a thousand wildlife parts in Malaysia.

However siblings Bui Thi Ngan and Bui Van Noi and a stepbrother Bui Van Anh will serve up to 12 years in prison, as the judge ordered sentences on 15 charges to run simultaneously from when they were nabbed.

The trio were arrested in November 2023, in the state of Pahang where raids uncovered a stunning array of species and wildlife parts - 397 bear claws alongside parts of leopards, tigers, serow, Asian golden cat and elephant.

Jungle Train Adventure to Merapoh for Trek for Tigers šŸš‚

We took the overnight jungle train from JB Central to Merapoh, a scenic ride that’ll get you to Tumpat in the northeast. 😓 We boarded at 9pm and arrived at 7am, where Alex Jack from Malaysian Conservation Collective kindly picked us up.

The upper bunk was cozy (tiny but clean!), with space for your stuff. The twists and turns were a breeze – we were snoozing in no time! šŸ˜‚ If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, adventurous ride, this is it! Highly recommended if you can rough it out.

All for the Malayan tiger! šŸ…šŸŒ³šŸ…šŸŒ³

: It's a guilty verdict: Two years jail and MYR 300,000 in fines for a Malaysian businessman accused of illegally keeping a framed tiger skin a luxury condominium, a court in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ruled today

However, Ng Sing Huat's jail sentence is on hold until the case is appealed to a higher court, with the appeal expected to be filed today. However, Judge Mohd Zaki Mohd Salleh ordered the fine to be paid, the bail raised and Ng's passport to be withheld.

The framed tiger skin, was seized in August 2022 following a public tip off. The skin was subsequently determined through DNA testing to be genuine - that of a tiger.

The 51-year-old faces one charge under Section 68(1)(b) of the Wildlife Conservation Act and could be fined between MYR100,000 (USD24,000) and MYR500,000 (USD119,000) and up to 5 years in jail if convicted. He had plead not guilty in March 2024.

In mitigation, Ng's lawyer Hasshahari Johari Mawi argued that the offence was one of 'illegally keeping' and not of 'killing, snaring, injuring, caging or catching' the animal. They characterised the offence as a violation of government policy.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanina Mohd Anuar meanwhile argued that the tiger was a silent victim, unable to defend itself against poachers nor seek justice in court. She stressed the heightened threat to already Critically Endangered tigers, leading to Malaysia raising both jail and fines allowed under the law.

In delivering his sentence, the judge acknowledged the importance of the government policy to protect wildlife including tigers. He also acknowledged the tiger's circumstance as a silent victim. Mohd Zaki said the sentence should serve as a reminder to others not to do the same. He added that it should serve as a reminder to everyone to extend the sympathy and empathy they have for their pets to wild animals.

Tigers are heavily targeted by poaching and trafficking worldwide, with Malaysia estimating its population of wild tigers to be less than 150 individuals. All parts of tigers are in demand for a wide variety of uses ranging from traditional cures to decoration.
