Semporna Islands Project Working to protect the outstanding marine biodiversity in the Semporna area & ensure a better future for the islands, reefs and people who depend on them

The first milestone was reached in 2004, with the establishment of the Tun Sakaran Marine Park. This is Malaysia’s largest marine park, situated off the southeast coast of Sabah and covering 340km2 of sea and coral reefs, 10km2 of land and 8 islands.

Building knowledge, strengthening skills, and growing a future for giant clam conservation.

Our first day of Giant Clam, Abalone and Algal Culture Training Workshop brought together participants to learn about giant clam husbandry, culture techniques, and the importance of protecting these remarkable marine species and their reef ecosystems.

Through hands-on learning and knowledge sharing, we hope to strengthen local capacity and encourage sustainable practices that support both marine conservation and community livelihoods.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to making this workshop a meaningful learning experience!

Attending the two days of Pesta Igal-Igal was an absolute highlight, and gaining a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the traditional attire made the experience truly special. Learning about the intricate details, rich colors, and deep cultural heritage embedded in every piece of the traditional clothing was both eye opening and inspiring.

The entire festival was a resounding success from start to finish! A huge thank you to Future Alam Borneo for extending such a warm invitation to us and for putting together an event that beautifully celebrates our heritage and community.

Our team conducted a visit to the giant clam hatchery at Bohey Dulang Island, which we manage as part of our ongoing efforts to support giant clam and abalone conservation and restoration.

The visit focused is to monitor the hatchery’s condition, reviewing ongoing operations, and ensuring that the giant clams and abalone receive proper care throughout their growth and development.

As we were working closely with local communities and Sabah Parks, we remain committed to maintain the hatchery and support the recovery of giant clam and abalone populations in our marine ecosystems. 💙🐚🌿

As part of our ongoing commitment to community-based conservation and sustainable waste management, our team visited the Waste Management Hub in the Selakan Islands to review and support our waste management activities on the island.

The visit focused on understanding the current waste management system, strengthening our collaboration with the local community, and exploring ways to improve waste collection, sorting, and disposal practices.

Through these efforts, we aim to reduce waste from entering the marine environment and support cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable island communities.

A Look Back at the Preparation for Our Giant Clam Workshop!

The day before the Giant Clam Eco-Garden Workshop, our team came together to prepare the materials, coordinate the details, and make sure everything was ready for a meaningful day ahead.

It was a great reflection of teamwork, collaboration, and shared passion for marine conservation. 🤝🌊
