Working to protect the outstanding marine biodiversity in the Semporna area & ensure a better future for the islands, reefs and people who depend on them

The first milestone was reached in 2004, with the establishment of the Tun Sakaran Marine Park. This is Malaysia’s largest marine park, situated off the southeast coast of Sabah and covering 340km2 of sea and coral reefs, 10km2 of land and 8 islands.

The SIP team recently held discussions on ongoing activities in Tun Sakaran Marine Park, focusing on current conservation programs, operational updates, and areas for future collaboration. The session provided a valuable platform to exchange insights and strengthen coordination in support of effective marine resource management.

We sincerely appreciate the continued partnership and support in our shared efforts to protect and conserve Semporna’s rich and diverse marine ecosystems, and we look forward to further strengthening collaboration for long-term conservation impact.

The SIP team had a productive courtesy visit with the Department of Fisheries Sabah on 19 January 2026. The session provided an opportunity to share updates on our ongoing marine conservation initiatives in Semporna, exchange insights, and explore potential areas for collaboration.

We also discussed upcoming opportunities and ways to strengthen partnerships in support of sustainable fisheries management and marine biodiversity conservation. We are grateful for the continued support and guidance from the Department of Fisheries Sabah and look forward to working together to further advance marine conservation efforts in the region.
