A remarkable event held 12 years ago, bringing together some of the region’s leading bird clubs🤩

Both the Borneo Bird Festival and the Borneo Bird Race are all about putting Borneo on the map as a birding paradise, while fostering conservation awareness and supporting ecotourism. These events have been consistently successful in bringing together local and international birding enthusiasts, and in showcasing the region’s exceptional bird and wildlife biodiversity.

Fifteen years on, we gather tonight to celebrate the passion, hard work, and spirit that made this journey possible.

Fifteen years ago, the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club began with just a handful of passionate nature enthusiasts, not with fancy gear, but with binoculars and simple cameras with one big dream: to share the beauty of nature. From those humble jungle days, we’ve grown into a movement that inspires others to explore, appreciate, and protect the amazing wildlife around us, and maybe even convince the younger generation that wildlife photography is pretty cool too.

We are grateful to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Tourism Board, Sabah Forestry Department, Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Parks, and all the NGOs who’ve supported us from the very beginning.

Today, we’re grateful for the strong support from Ybhg Tuan Julinus Jefferey Jimit, CEO of Sabah Tourism Board, together, we’ll keep making this event even greater!

The Rainforest Discovery Centre has become the heart of nature and a true ‘healing’ place for birdwatching in Sabah. Big thanks to Dr. Robert Ong for creating one of Borneo’s finest nature spots, and to Dr Arthur Chung, Puan Bernadette Joeman and her team for continuing the legacy for making RDC an outstanding hub for education and environmental awareness.
A big thank you as well to YBhg Tuan Walter Kenson, the President of Sandakan Municipal Council, our government reps, and tour operators for keeping Sepilok clean and safe.

And of course, to our amazing camera and optic sponsors, terima kasih banyak! for the awesome prizes every year (even though we have to beg a little each time 😅). You keep our contests fun and exciting!
