Relief4Humanity acts as bridge between NGO’s and private initiatives in Greek Refugee Camps, with the goal to support the Refugees & Greece through this difficult global migration crisis. We aim to support sustainable, functioning, non-governmental social projects in Greece that currently do not receive enough support, due to the current catastrophic economic situation in Greece. In Samos we lead
numerous educational, training, and cultural workshops/classes. OUR STORY:
'Relief4Humanity' was founded by a group of motivated individuals most of them Irish with strong ties to Greece in 2016,who were moved to take action when the scale and intensity of the growing economic and social crisis became apparent. We established our organisation in order to support our neighbors in need. In the face of the rapidly worsening refugee crisis, we have made it our main priority to support on-site organisations dealing with this adversity. Increasing numbers of refugees are arriving on the Greek coasts daily, making existing resources, volunteers and space increasingly scarce on many of the affected islands. It's common knowledge that conditions are defining individual's behavior. In such a horrendous environment, like Camp Moria, no thinking person would expect refugees to be calm and balanced. Hence, a new space that would involve the refugees into community building activities, according to their skills and talents, would definitely serve as an alternative, and would as well help decompress Camp Moria and its residents. So far we achieved to prove three basic things:
- If you give people a place of safety and acceptance, they can coexist and work together for the common good, like one balanced human community.
- People of Moria have talents!! We have found all the professions and we have discovered real gems among them, people who create magic with a smile on their face, a great bunch of human beings.
- If you address a human being on the same level, with respect and empathy, and create a family / community on that basis, then this generates a positive spiral for the community as a whole, as well as for each of its members as an individual. Relief4Humanity designs and implements programs that provide assistance and support to those most affected by the economic downturn and the humanitarian crisis. We collaborate with international humanitarian agencies (e.g. UNHCR, UNICEF, CARE International) to implement programs in a manner that promotes efficiency and allows us to reach the broadest range of beneficiaries, including vulnerable populations. For everyone to feel and function as equal members in a cohesive society, access to and the exercise of basic rights for vulnerable and marginalized populations must be secured, which can only be achieved through a collective effort.
