What does the future of food look like, and who gets to shape it?

For three days in Kampar, the Food Forest Forum 2026 brought together farmers, Orang Asli leaders, educators, researchers, conservationists, and regenerative agriculture practitioners to share stories, challenges, and ideas for a more resilient future.

Organised by SEEDS Malaysia, Urban Hijau, Project M.A.R.S., and Sarawak CSO-SDG Alliance, with support from The Habitat Foundation and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), the forum explored regenerative agriculture, indigenous knowledge, seed sovereignty, and building a mutually supportive practitioner community.

The gathering provided an avenue to discuss contemporary global challenges impacting food security and the role regenerative agriculture could play in achieving food self-sufficiency.

The Habitat Foundation mooted the establishment of Regenerative Agriculture Network to enhance the availability of resources and to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

With 140 participants attending physically and 60 joining virtually, the forum was a reminder that caring for the land also means caring for people, culture, and future generations.

For all of our lives, nature has had a singular narrator. His distinctive voice has guided us on exhilarating journeys of discovery to all corners of the earth, to the highest mountains and to the depths of the sea.

With him we have also experienced the full roller coaster of emotions from exhilaration and pure delight, to profound sorrow and desolation.

For above all, Sir David Attenborough, in celebrating the miracle of our precious living world, has modelled for us a relentless humanity.

He has shown us that it is courageous to care and it is human to have hope. He believes that if we truly saw this planet, we could not bear to destroy it.

Sir David, on your 100th birthday, we thank you for the incomparable example of your life. You will eternally be our troop leader, and we follow after you armed with our essential kit of curiosity, wonder, and determination to preserve the natural world that you love so well.

April’s CIMB Environmental Education programmes focused on sharpening wildlife-spotting skills from the coast to the canopy!

At Pantai Malindo, students from SMK Sungai Nibong explored the fascinating world of mangroves, learning how these coastal forests support biodiversity and protect our shorelines. The highlight was spotting shorebirds in flight and learning how to use binoculars for wildlife observation.

Meanwhile, at The Habitat Penang Hill, students from SK Bagan Ajam took on the role of nature detectives. Along the forest trail, they identified species like black giant squirrels and millipedes, before putting their knowledge to the test through interactive card games featuring animals from Peninsular and Borneo Malaysia.

Every outing is a chance to look closer, ask questions, and discover just how much there is to learn when you start identifying the life around you.

This programme is supported by the CIMB EcoSave-i: Our Nature, Our Treasure initiative by CIMB Islamic, in collaboration with The Habitat Foundation and Penang Institute.

CIMB EcoSave-i is a green-focused savings account that supports environmentally responsible projects across Malaysia, while rewarding customers for making more sustainable choices.

Most people drive past the tapir road sign without a second thought. But behind that sign is one of Malaysia's most fascinating and most overlooked animals: a forest gardener, a dream-eater, a living piece of folklore, dressed in black and white like it owns the night.

A species that has roamed these forests for thousands of years, yet fewer than 1,800 remain in Peninsular Malaysia today, accounting for over 70% of the global population. They are endangered enough to need a bright yellow sign just to survive our roads, and with roadkill cases more than doubling since 2014, even that isn't enough.

This , learn the story of the animal we keep driving past. The Habitat Foundation is working in key tapir landscapes to restore the forests they depend on, because being the world's last stronghold for this species is not a title, it's a responsibility.

A future rooted in resilience begins with how we understand our forests.

We’re proud to spotlight Anthony Sebastian, our Keynote Speaker for Food Forest Forum 2026; a problem-solving ecologist whose work sits at the intersection of conservation, policy, and real-world impact.

With over four decades of experience, Anthony brings a perspective we can’t afford to ignore: forests are not separate from our food systems, they are fundamental to them.

Catch his keynote on Day 1 as he unpacks the complexity, challenges assumptions, and connects the dots between forests, food, and our shared future.

POV: You’re a bat.

You wake at sunset and head out into the night, navigating with sound or scent, depending on who you are. Along the way, you help keep insect populations in check, pollinate flowers, and disperse seeds that keep forests growing.

Yet, despite the role you play, you’re often misunderstood and pushed out as habitats disappear.

This , it might be time to see bats a little differently: not as something to fear, but as an essential part of the ecosystems we all depend on.

Mud on our shoes and a deeper appreciation for nature by the end of it.

Over four months, students from POWIIS BALIK PULAU explored ecosystems, tried urban farming, learned from experts, and engaged with rewilding through Project MARS.

We closed with reflection, but the impact will continue long after the program ends.

A British-born Australian permaculture consultant, designer, teacher, and speaker, Geoff has spent decades proving that regenerative systems are not just theory, but practical and scalable solutions. From restoring deserts to establishing abundant food forests, his work demonstrates what’s possible when we design with nature, not against it.

Since 1995, he has dedicated his career to permaculture education, design, implementation, and community development, empowering people around the world to regenerate land and secure food systems.

At Food Forest Forum 2026, we’re honoured to bring you the opportunity to learn directly from Geoff Lawton and explore how food forests can be part of the solution to today’s climate and food security challenges.
