North South Initiative North South Initiative works with marginalised communities, with a focus on migrants and refugees. We aim to build a society that prioritizes social justice.

We believe in the empowerment of the marginalized and disenfranchised, and we do not intend to represent them nor be their voice, as when given the correct tools, they can challenge oppressive structures themselves. One of our thematic programs is with migrant workers. where we aim to empower migrant workers and other actors using the rights-based framework as a respond to the violation of their r

ights. Some of the current tools and methods used by NSI to engage the Business sector includes helpline systems, smartphone applications, remediation, hostel inspections, social audits & dialogues, strategic litigation, workers empowerment, policy reforms, community organising, middle management training, research & data collection and evidence-driven digital systems. Glad to share that we had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Ishikawa from Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.

The meeting allowed us to exchange views on issues related to migrant workers, human rights, and other matters of mutual concern.

We sincerely hope to see further dialogue and broader cooperation between Malaysia and Japan in the future!

On this Mother’s Day, we honor the strength, sacrifice, and courage of all mothers me especially migrant, refugee, and stateless mothers living in vulnerable conditions in Malaysia.

Their love continues through hardship. Their hope survives every challenge.

At North South Initiative (NSI), we stand in solidarity with them and continue working for dignity, protection, and equal rights for every mother and every family.
