DEAR MS. GLORIA DASS,

On behalf of the entire team at North South Initiative (NSI), we write to you with heavy hearts and deep sorrow upon hearing of the passing of your beloved mother, who departed at the blessed age of 86.

We share in your grief and hold you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Your mother leaves behind a beautiful and enduring legacy, in you, her beloved daughter, who has dedicated your entire life to the service of humanity, to the protection of human rights, and to building a more just and compassionate world for all. The grace, kindness, and courage you show every day are a testament to the love, wisdom, and noble values she instilled in you. She raised a daughter who has become a beacon of hope for so many, and in this, her spirit lives on in every life you touch and every heart you comfort.

May the Almighty grant your mother mercy, forgiveness, and the highest abode in Paradise. May He surround her with His light and grant her peace and eternal rest.

In this time of profound loss, please know that we stand beside you as a family. May God grant you, your family, and all who loved her strength, patience, and comfort to bear this sorrow. May He fill your heart with peace and sustain you with His grace.

North South Initiative stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal.

The recent floods unfortunately serve as yet another reminder that climate change needs to be taken seriously and it's disproportionate impact on the Global South needs to addressed properly.

Humanitarian Exchange Magazine, Issue 87: "Local leadership in a changing humanitarian architecture"

We're proud to have contributed to this edition alongside our fellow partners and the Humanitarian Practice Network, bringing together refugee and local voices from across the region.

APRRN contributors Baqir Bayani, Amrita Paul, Subin Mulmi, Ahtaram Shin and Khair Ullah share a powerful set of articles on what local leadership actually looks like on the ground: refugee-led organisations stepping up as first responders in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh; trusted community actors delivering education and emergency support in Indonesia and Thailand; the structural barriers that still block meaningful participation in decision-making; and a hard look at how funding systems continue to shut local actors out.

The message is clear: local leadership isn't a future goal, it's already here. The question is whether the humanitarian system will finally redistribute the power, funding and decision-making to match.

Bridging Nations, Protecting Workers - Standing in Solidarity

Today, North South Initiative (NSI), represented by Agha Abdul Sattar, Abu Sayed, and Kai Sian Paupi, joined the WSIF Study Visit at Hotel Maya, Kuala Lumpur, a vital dialogue on migrant workers' welfare, labour rights, and protection from heat stress amid the growing climate crisis.

Together with the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund (WSIF) Qatar, BWI, Malaysian trade unions, and civil society organisations including Tenaganita, TEUPM, PERTIMIG, and AMMPO, we exchanged knowledge, shared on-the-ground realities, and strengthened our collective voice.

Climate change knows no borders, and worker protection must not either. From fair recruitment and zero-fee employment to safe workplaces, from ending debt bo***ge to ensuring dignity, we stand firmly with migrant workers.

Solidarity across borders. Dignity for all. Rights without exception. ✊🌍

Honoured to represent North South Initiative at the 18th Traditional Karen Wrist-Tying Ceremony today, standing in solidarity and dignity with all refugee, migrant, and indigenous communities.

Tying white thread around wrists, a promise: I am yours, you are mine, we are one.

Celebrating thousands of years of history, culture, and unity. From our ancestors' long journey to building lives here in Malaysia, we stand together. We remain strong.
