Strengthening Industry Collaboration for Malaysia’s Sustainable Built Environment — GREAP 6
GreenRE convened the 6th GreenRE Advisory Panel (GREAP) Meeting on 23 April 2026 at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, bringing together a strong cross-section of stakeholders from government, industry, professional bodies, and academia.
From PlanMalaysia, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, MGTC, MIDA, Jabatan Alam Sekitar and Jabatan Kerja Raya, to organisations such as REHDA Malaysia, MAESCO, IEM, PPKM, RISM, as well as academic partners including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), UiTM, Sunway University and MUST, the session reflected the depth and diversity of collaboration needed to move the industry forward.
The meeting opened with remarks by Datuk Seri Dr Michael Yam (GreenRE Director), who highlighted GreenRE’s milestone of 500 million sq ft of certified developments signalling the industry’s shift towards performance-based sustainability and growing regional relevance.
Key discussions were anchored by policy and industry insights, including:
• Urban redevelopment and low-carbon transformation by Wardiyah Binti Senik@Abdul Mokhti, Deputy Director PlanMalaysia
• Implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024 (EECA) by Norazrin Bin Rupadi, Deputy Director (Energy Efficiency & Conservation Regulatory Section) Suruhanjaya Tenaga
• Green financing mechanisms by Khairul Ikhwan Bin Jamaludin, Head Green Financing and Investment of Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC)
The session also featured research insights from GreenRE’s academic partners:
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azlin Mohd Azmi, Universiti Teknologi MARA
• Assoc. Prof. Ar. Dr. Lim Yaik Wah, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
This was followed by a GreenRE organisational update and a robust discussion on key challenges, opportunities, and pathways to accelerate implementation at scale.
