Lebih 100 pelarian Rohingya termasuk wanita dan kanak-kanak telah ditahan selepas mereka mendapatkan bantuan di luar pejabat UNHCR, Kuala Lumpur.

Mereka yang mencari keselamatan berhak mendapat perlindungan dan bukannya penahanan. Malaysia mesti mempertahankan hak pelarian dan pencari suaka, menghentikan penghantaran pulang secara paksa ke Myanmar serta meletakkan maruah dan hak asasi manusia sebagai teras dalam dasar pelariannya.

People seeking safety deserve protection, not detention. Malaysia must uphold the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers, halt forced returns to Myanmar, and put dignity and human rights at the centre of its refugee policies.

The government must ensure transparency, uphold the principle of non-refoulement, and guarantee that no one is returned to danger before their protection needs are fully and fairly assessed.

We are deeply disappointed by today’s Court of Appeal decision to uphold the ban on Mentega Terbang.

This case was never just about one film. It is about protecting Freedom of Expression and ensuring artists can create without fear of censorship, prosecution, and intimidation.

Amnesty International Malaysia stands in solidarity with Khairi, Meng, and Malaysia’s creative community. As the filmmakers seek to bring their case before the Federal Court, we hope the courts will ultimately uphold the right to freedom of expression.

The government must also immediately drop ongoing criminal charges against the filmmakers and repeal laws that enable censorship and the criminalization of artistic expression, including the Film Censorship Act 2002 and Section 298 of the Penal Code.
