Before a solar light goes into a home, there’s a little homework to do first!

It starts with the community. We spend time with the villagers to understand what lighting looks like in their homes, which households need support and how many systems are actually needed.

From there, Sun King Home systems are installed in the identified homes, giving families 3 lighting options: low, normal and turbo, depending on what they need throughout the evening.

And finally, the part everyone has been waiting for! switching on the lights and seeing the homes light up after dark.

What does a healthy chicken actually look like? And what should farmers be looking out for inside the coop?

That was part of what we got into during a full day of learning with PPB & FFM !

The morning was all about getting the basics right, covering biosecurity, coop management, lighting for young chicks, downtime between cycles, signs of a healthy chicken and understanding FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio!)

After lunch, we headed to Batin Nohing’s coop to see things up close. The team checked the chickens and coop together, followed by a practical post-mortem session to better understand chicken health and what farmers should look out for.

Plenty of questions, plenty to learn, and a good day getting hands-on with our farmers.

Selamat Hari Malaysia!

Hari Malaysia bukan sekadar tentang meraikan negara yang kita kongsi, tetapi juga tentang mengenali suara, sejarah dan hak masyarakat yang membentuknya.

Bagi masyarakat Orang Asli di Semenanjung Malaysia, kesedaran perlu pergi lebih jauh daripada sekadar mengenali budaya. Ia juga tentang memahami hak mereka terhadap tanah adat, akses kepada pendidikan, identiti, serta penglibatan dalam keputusan yang memberi kesan kepada komuniti.

Advokasi bermula apabila kita memilih untuk ambil cakna, dan mendengar bagaimana sesuatu isu benar-benar dirasai oleh komuniti.

Semoga kita terus membina sebuah Malaysia yang lebih peka terhadap realiti setiap komuniti dengan kesediaan untuk memahami sesuatu isu bukan dari gambaran luaran sahaja, tetapi melalui pengalaman dan perspektif komuniti itu sendiri. Selamat Hari Malaysia!

A first in Malaysia for Orang Asli STEM showcase & orienteering!

What a proud day to see Orang Asli students from primary and secondary schools across Pahang coming together for something of this scale!

In collaboration with SLB and Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pahang (JPN Pahang), the event brought together more than 205 students, with 30 Gold Award schools taking part in the STEM Showcase and 22 schools going head to head in STEM Orienteering!

Altogether, we received participation from 88 schools across 9 districts, including Bentong, Bera, Jerantut, Lipis, Pekan, Raub, Rompin, Temerloh and Maran, with participating schools also receiving Silver and Bronze recognition.

The hall was filled with students proudly standing beside their ideas and prototypes, explaining what they had created and putting their learning into practice. And then came Orienteering, where things got a little more competitive!

And we really have to mention our 33 SLB volunteers, who made their way down from KL, with some starting their day as early as 5.30am! They spent the day engaging with the students and also stepped in as judges for the SLB Innovation Awards.

Seeing so many Orang Asli students, teachers and schools from across Pahang in one place, sharing ideas, showing what they had created, cheering each other on and just getting into STEM, this was a big one for us!

Thank you SLB, JPN Pahang, all participating PPDs, our teachers, volunteers and everyone who came together to make this first possible!

8 friends from Linaco, plenty of coconuts to check… and one night in the kampung!

We started with breakfast and a quick intro to Syntropic Agroforestry before making our way to Kg Padang.

First stop was Amai Zai’s farm, where we checked on the coconuts and visited both her older and newer plots to see how things have been growing.

Amai Zai also came prepared with jeruk kelubi and jeruk cili padi. The Linaco team bought everything. So yes, the farm visit also became a little shopping trip.Then off to Kg Jong to see Pak Jabar and Nenek Alan.

Pak Jabar’s coconut trees gave everyone a nice surprise (Wohooo) some are starting to bear fruit, and there’s even mayang that can be tapped for nira! Mr Jimmy from Linaco took the opportunity to show Pak Jabar how to collect it.

Over at Nenek Alan’s plot, her coconut trees are also beginning to produce, which led to a little discussion on which mayang kelapa can be used for nira and which should be left to develop into coconuts.

Last stop, Kg Batu 3. We sat down with Mamak Alai for a chat about the history of the village, had dinner prepared by the community, and called it a night right there in the kampung.

Not every coconut is growing at the same pace, and the unpredictable weather has been a challenge in some plots. That’s also why visits like this are useful we get to check what’s happening, and learn directly from each farm.

A lot of driving, a lot of coconuts, some jeruk shopping and plenty of sharing in between.

MAHA 2026 Highlights with Syntropic Agroforestry!

We were happy to be part of MAHA 2026 this year, bringing a little piece of our Syntropic Agroforestry journey from the Orang Asli farms in Pahang to MAEPS Serdang.

One of our highlights was Kopi dan Cerita Komuniti: Dari Hutan ke Bandar, a sharing session with YM Raja Rahim where we got to talk about the people behind the farms, what Syntropic Agroforestry actually looks like on the ground, and how this journey has grown over the years.

Syntropic Agroforestry is a way of farming that works with nature with different crops and plants are grown together to help restore the soil, create biomass and build a healthier, more resilient farm over time.

For our Orang Asli farmers we work alongside, it is also about growing food and making productive use of their land while caring for it.

We were also very happy to welcome YB Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to the YSD Edible Garden, where she spent some time learning about the communities and the work behind the initiative.

And perhaps what made being at MAHA especially meaningful was seeing how far this journey has come.

Back then, from starting with a small group of farmers, to produce from the farms now reaching selected Jaya Grocer outlets, there has been a lot of learning and growing along the way.

A big thank you to Yayasan Sime Darby for continuing to believe in and support this work over the years.

Long-term support like this gives farmers the time and space to learn, and build something that can keep growing.

Happy to have brought a little bit of Pahang to MAHA 2026!
