Wisdom Inspired Supportive Endeavour (WISE) is a non-profit charitable organization, whose mission is to promote Mindfulness and Right Understanding through the practise of Awareness + Wisdom. WISE will assume the responsibility of carrying out the activities previously offered by Clove&Clive in the past and move them forward. Rest assured this is mainly an administrative change, and that the peop

le behind WISE are very much the same as the ones behind Clove&Clive then. Clove&Clive Sdn Bhd as a business entity will be wound up voluntarily in due time, but the cozy centre at Kelana Jaya will continue to be maintained and will now be managed by WISE. The most significant change participants of past courses and retreats at Clove&Clive will notice is that, wherever WISE could, it will offer its courses as sponsored activities, in other words, participants do not pay a fee to join — or, to put it in even simpler words, the classes are free! Free because the expenses involved have already been sponsored by members and supporters of WISE. This is in line with WISE's objective as a charitable organization to give the gift of education and wisdom to anyone who is inclined to make the effort to live a life with greater authenticity, clarity and equanimity — and WISE will continue to do this — as what Clove&Clive did too, WITHOUT imposing any religious agenda. Clove&Clive did not charge any participation fee for many of its classes then, and WISE is just taking this a step further.

The video explores the idea that our perception of time, including the past, future, and even the "now," are illusions, as they are merely thoughts happening in the present moment. True freedom involves realizing that all of reality, including the self and the external world, is a "mind-made dream" and the escape is achieved not by changing the world, but by understanding the mind creating this illusion. If our entire reality is simply a thought, what remains when we look beyond to the constant underlying reality?

Dear friends and community,

As we journey together towards realising Sri Langkasuka Retreat Village (SLRV), it is natural to look forward to the day when buildings begin to rise from the land. Yet, every enduring structure begins long before the first foundation is laid.

The work taking place now may not be immediately visible, but it is among the most important stages of the entire project.

Every significant decision begins with understanding.

Before a single building can be constructed, there is much to learn about the land, the environment, the regulations, and the many practical considerations involved. This requires careful research, consultation with experienced professionals, thoughtful design, and ongoing dialogue with the relevant authorities.

Each piece of information gathered helps shape wiser decisions. Each refinement to the design helps ensure that what is eventually built will truly serve its purpose for many years to come.

In many ways, this stage mirrors our own practice. When we patiently observe before reacting, understanding gradually becomes clearer. Likewise, careful preparation now creates the conditions for steady progress later.

An inspired lyric written when the word Mara (Sanskrit: the Destroyer of Truth) appeared in Joy's mind one day. Here is a rendition in a contemplative song inspired by themes of wisdom, self-inquiry, and awakening. The usual assumption: we tend to think truth and illusion are two separate things, like light and dark, or two rooms with a wall between them. Illusion is the "wrong" room, while truth is the "right" one. Escape one, arrive at the other.

Why that framing breaks down: if illusion were truly separate from truth, a different substance, existing on its own, then it would be a second reality alongside truth. But that would make it real in its own right, which contradicts calling it illusion in the first place. An illusion does not have independent standing. It borrows its entire existence from what it is a distorted appearance of. It is truth’s distortion. Just like a mirage is a distortion of light and heat.

Think of a rope mistaken for a snake in dim light. The "snake" is not nothing. We really do see something, really do feel fear. But the snake has no existence apart from the rope. It is not rope plus snake, two things. It is the rope, misperceived. The illusion (snake) is not other than the rope. It is a mode of encountering the rope. So, it is not asking “what is the snake made of?” It is asking “how is the rope being met right now?”
