When the global edible oils market shifts, the conversation matters. And Kuala Lumpur is where that conversation is happening.

Day 1 of the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum Kuala Lumpur 2026 brought together policymakers, industry leaders, international buyers, traders and market experts to examine the forces reshaping global edible oils, from geopolitics and changing trade flows to sustainability, biofuel policies and the market outlook.

The Forum was officially opened by YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Plantation and Commodities, who highlighted the resilience of Malaysia’s palm oil sector amid evolving global trade and logistics conditions.

Under the theme “Sustainable Growth in an Era of Geopolitical Realignment”, MPOF KL 2026 is creating a platform for the conversations that matter: connecting market intelligence with policy, sustainability with competitiveness, and established markets with new opportunities.

Day 1 also took the Malaysian palm oil story beyond the industry. Upin & Ipin made a special appearance following MPOC’s collaboration with Les’ Copaque on a special episode designed to bring Malaysian palm oil closer to wider audiences through familiar, accessible storytelling.

From global market intelligence to public engagement, the first day reflected a larger purpose: strengthening Malaysia’s voice, building trusted connections and keeping Malaysian palm oil at the centre of the conversations shaping the future of global edible oils.

Trade opportunities grow when knowledge and connections come together.

From plantation insights to trade connections, Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC)’s flagship Trade & Networking Visit (TNV) brought together international delegates from 26 countries in conjunction with MPOF KL 2026.

On 6 October, delegates visited FGV Gunung Besout Kompleks in Perak for a firsthand look at Malaysia’s palm oil industry. They observed oil palm harvesting and fresh fruit bunch collection, while gaining insight into plantation management practices that support productivity and sustainability.

The programme deepened participants’ understanding of Malaysian palm oil while creating opportunities to connect with industry stakeholders, exchange perspectives and explore potential trade collaborations.

Did you know Malaysia produced more than 20.3 million tonnes of crude palm oil in 2025, accounting for around 24% of global supply?

More than 24 million tonnes of palm oil and oil palm products were exported to markets worldwide, including India, China, the European Union, Kenya, Türkiye, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Understanding the bigger picture means looking beyond a single part of the story.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) is pleased to host international journalists from Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, the Philippines and the United Kingdom for the Malaysian Palm Oil Familiarisation Visit from 4 to 9 October 2026.

Palm oil is often viewed through a single lens. On the ground, however, its story is shaped by many interconnected parts, from the people behind production to the research supporting continued improvement.

At Wild Asia’s WAGS project in Kampung Sungai Judah, the journalists met smallholders and saw how practical guidance, knowledge sharing and traceability are being applied at farm level.

At FGV’s Innovation Centre, they gained a different perspective on the same story, learning how tissue culture research and improved planting materials can support greater productivity.

Together, both visits provided a broader view of Malaysia’s palm oil sector, where supporting smallholder livelihoods and investing in science and innovation are part of the same effort to strengthen the industry for the future.

What does regenerative agriculture look like when it is put into practice?

On 5 October 2026, students from the University of St. Gallen and Singapore Management University experienced it first-hand on Carey Island, Selangor, through the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) EduPalm Programme, organised in collaboration with Wild Asia.

Through the Wild Asia Group Scheme (WAGS) BIO approach, the students explored how regenerative practices can support oil palm smallholdings by improving soil health, encouraging biodiversity, and turning agricultural materials into useful farm inputs. WAGS BIO focuses on healthier soils, circular farming, and reducing reliance on chemical inputs.

Hands-on activities brought these ideas to life, giving the students a closer look at how smallholders can work with natural processes while balancing environmental, economic, and practical considerations on the farm.

For the students, the experience connected classroom discussions on sustainability with the realities of agriculture on the ground.

This is what EduPalm is about, giving future leaders the opportunity to see, question, and understand how sustainability is being put into practice across the Malaysian palm oil industry.

There’s a reason it’s red. But what’s hiding behind that colour?

That vibrant red comes from naturally occurring carotenoids, while red palm oil is also rich in provitamin A and vitamin E tocotrienols.

Beyond its nutritional profile, research has explored its potential to support vitamin A status, including through fortified local foods. In one study, serum retinol levels increased significantly among the study group after consuming snacks fortified with red palm oil.

From its natural nutrients to its potential nutritional impact, red palm oil is bringing a whole new meaning to “red.”
