Society of St Vincent de Paul, Conference of SFX, Petaling Jaya SSVP-SFX, an NGO and Catholic in nature, aims at lifting up the lives of the Poor and Needy in every way possible via various empowering projects.

This page is aimed at disseminating information on our activities. Besides running an education/boarding home, Rumah Pengajian Xavier, RPX, which comes with a lot of challenges, we also provide various aids to the Poor and Needy in our community. The urban poor faces a lot of difficulties in this economic situation. We provide what we can with the donations we collect from various avenues. Before

we adopt our Friends/Families in Need (FIN, in short), we do home visits to ascertain their needs. Then we pray and discern during our meeting how best to help them. We have also a Service Centre in Sri Sentosa, Ozanam Service Centre/OSC, where we have a Learning Centre to help the weak school pupils living around the area, provide aid for EPF/SOCSO/Welfare issues. Lately we have embarked in Women's Empowering programme. We will be launching a business venture for single mothers, widow, wives from the underprivileged sector in the area. We are selling flowers, new/used good clothes/bags, costume jewelleries, etc, some new, some old, mostly donated. We also do the sale online as well.

The boys at a Rumah Pengajian Xavier were blessed with a warm and generous visit from the World Malayalee Federation Malaysia Chapter.

The members came bearing thoughtful gifts — pillows, beddings, towels and food provisions — bringing not only much-needed essentials, but also their kindness and care.

The boys were treated to a delicious lunch of chicken biryani, followed by curry puffs and vadai for tea time. But beyond the food and gifts, it was the time spent over lunch sharing stories and conversation around the table which made the visit truly special.

A heartfelt thank you to the World Malayalee Federation Malaysia Chapter for your generosity, your time and, most importantly, for making the boys feel remembered and cared for.

A Place to Breathe — A Young Writer Finds His Voice

Today, 15 August 2026, was a very special day for Rumah Pengajian Xavier (RPX) as we celebrated the launch of ‘Colour Me Different’, a collection of short stories written by 15 young Malaysians — including our very own Sajeshan Mahenthiran, fondly known as Shan.

The book was launched at BookXcess, IOI Damansara Mall, Petaling Jaya.

Shan came to RPX from a broken family, seeking a place to stay and, more importantly, making an affirmative decision to excel in his studies. We welcomed him into our home, and today he is a Form Four student — quiet and unassuming, yet determined, thoughtful and remarkably mature for his age.

When I read his short story, ‘A Place to Breathe’, tears welled up in my eyes. It is a short story filled with depth, emotion and vulnerability — written passionately from the heart. Through his words, Shan has given us a glimpse into a young soul that has experienced much, yet continues to hope, dream and find his voice.

His family members, counsellor, teachers and former guardian, Mr David, were all present today to support him. We are immensely proud of this young man and grateful to everyone who has walked alongside him on his journey.

Shan, keep writing. Continue to nurture your gift for writing and journalism. Your voice matters, and your story matters.

Finding Riches in Simplicity ❤️♻️

Meet Nagama, a 70-year-old resident of Desa Mentari who lives alone. Every day, she walks through two blocks of PPR flats, collecting discarded plastic bottles, containers, cardboard, paper and glass left along corridors, pavements and elevators.

Her daily rounds do more than earn her about RM30 a month from recycling. They help keep her neighbourhood clean, care for the environment, and keep her active and healthy.

When we visited her home, we found bags of recyclables filling her living room and spare bedroom. Her flat was simple, with old, worn furniture. Yet, what stood out most was not what she lacked, but the joy and gratitude she carried.

Nagama never complained. Instead, she counted her blessings.

As Vincentians, we often think we bring hope during our home visits. But sometimes, those we visit become our greatest teachers. Nagama reminded us that true wealth is not measured by possessions, but by a grateful heart and a life lived with quiet dignity.

SSVP & RPX at SFX Family Day – A Day of Service, Teamwork and Smiles! 💚

What a wonderful day at the SFX Family Day!

SSVP set up a stall selling our ever-popular kacang puteh, while also sponsoring a stall for Samaritan Hope Home (SHH), where visitors enjoyed a delicious variety of homemade food and freshly baked cookies.

Our RPX boys were simply superb! Splitting into teams, they enthusiastically promoted and sold kacang puteh, helped sell SHH’s cookies, and even took on the important responsibility of guiding parishioners to segregate their waste correctly into compost, plastics and general waste. As if that wasn’t enough, they rounded off the day by selling recycled bags!

Phew… that’s a lot of selling and serving in one day! 😊

Your enthusiasm, teamwork, cheerful spirit and willingness to serve made a real difference. More than just raising funds, you demonstrated responsibility, care for creation, and the joy of serving others.

A heartfelt thank you to our sis Jocelyn, volunteers, supporters and everyone who stopped by our stalls. Your generosity continues to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Samaritan Hope Home will be having a stall next to SSVP stall on SFX Family Day. They are selling super delicious food.

We have tasted their sheperd’s pie and sambal belacan. 👍 Their pies are really good and will be available both hot and frozen. Their frozen pies can be kept in the freezer to be enjoyed on other days.

The sambal belacan has no perservatives and can be eaten straight from the bottle. You can also use it to fry with lady fingers or other vegetables. Yummy yummy 😋

Please support them. Good food good cause. All proceeds go towards their Street Ministry outreach and Ladies’ Shelter Home.

Celebrating a Journey of Faith, Grit & Grace 🙌

God blessed Devaayashini with a strong personality, foresight, and the determination to excel in life.

Through it all, SSVP played a small but supportive role in helping her realize her dreams. And she ran with it!

With hard work and perseverance, she landed her first job, pursued her Master’s, and that path led her all the way to Hungary 🇭🇺. Her versatile spirit opened so many doors there — achievements that make Malaysia proud.

Wishing her all the best as she completes her MBA and steps into the bright, progressive career and life she truly deserves.

RCIA Presentation of Ministries

Today we were reminded that God uses us as His instrument to reach out to the poor and answer someone’s prayer.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul [SSVP] is one of the simplest and most direct ways to live out our faith in action. Through service, our own faith is deepened and strengthened.

As a team, we pray together, serve together, and grow together in spirit.

In giving to others, we create purpose in our life, receive blessings in return and build meaningful relationships and friendship.

First Conference Meeting of New Office Bearers a Success

The newly appointed office bearers held their first conference meeting following the 56th Annual General Meeting in April 2026. The session saw a strong turnout, reflecting the members’ warm welcome for our new President, Sis Jennifer.

Sis Jennifer chaired the meeting in an interactive and vibrant manner, guiding discussions and resolving matters through a democratic voting process. The positive energy and active participation set an encouraging tone for the new term.

After the meeting, members proceeded to visit our project home, Rumah Pengajian Xavier. Our administrator, Sis Mary, received everyone with a sumptuous tea break of coffee, tea, and homemade snacks lovingly prepared by our house mother, Sis Sheila.

Bro James introduced the staff and gave a brief background on the home’s operations. Our advisor, Bro Francis, then shared the history and mission of Rumah Pengajian Xavier.

The highlight of the visit was meeting the ‘heroes’ of the home — the boys. Each of them introduced themselves personally and shared their dreams and ambitions, leaving members deeply moved and inspired.
