Looking back at our Keeping Me Safe Programme a year ago today, we are reminded of what is possible when strong partnerships come together with one shared goal protecting children. With the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), we worked with amazing partners including YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said’s Office, the District Education Office Kota Tinggi, JEWEL, Balai Wanita Bandar Mas, Stagecraft Training Centre, and I Care Community Centre.

Together, we trained 145 educators and reached 931 children with critical knowledge on personal safety, rights, and protection. But beyond the numbers, this journey was about building trust, strengthening systems, and reaching communities beyond the main cities especially in Pengerang, Johor.

We also saw the beginning of something powerful a growing network of educators and partners committed to safeguarding children long after the programme ended.

To our child advocate team mates Thulasi Munisamy, Firzana Redzuan, and all our partners thank you for your dedication, resilience, and heart.

This is what impact looks like. And this is only the beginning.

April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month a time to face a difficult truth: abuse happens, often in silence, and often by someone a child knows.

Prevention starts with awareness. Learn the signs. Listen without judgment. Believe children when they speak. Create safe spaces where they feel heard and protected.

Every child deserves a childhood free from fear. It is not just a parent’s responsibility it is a community duty.

Teachers, neighbours, friends, and all of us have a role to play.

Speak up. Step in. Protect a child.

Online spaces are not always safe for children. Online harassment and stalking involve repeated digital intimidation, monitoring, threats, or unwanted contact that creates fear and distress. Sextortion goes even further using sexual images to blackmail, threaten, and control a child.

These harms often escalate quickly. What may begin as a conversation can turn into coercion, shame, and silence. The emotional impact is real: anxiety, isolation, fear of going online, and long-term trauma.

At PS the Children, we remind parents, caregivers, educators, and young people that digital violence is real violence. Early recognition, open conversations, and swift reporting can prevent further harm.

If a child is being threatened or blackmailed, act immediately. Preserve evidence and report to PDRM, Talian Kasih 15999, Cyber999, or the MCMC Aduan Portal.

No child should face online abuse alone.
Protect. Speak up. Act early.

We continue to celebrate women who are shaping safer futures for children across Malaysia.

Advocates like Ananthi Raj, Firzana, YM Tengku Yasmin, Siti Aishah, Lucy Lim, and Ain Husniza are driving change across communities, systems, and spaces strengthening child protection, advancing inclusion, and amplifying children’s voices.

Their work spans education access, community empowerment, advocacy, and protection for vulnerable and marginalised children, including those at risk of abuse, discrimination, and exclusion. Through their leadership, more children are supported, heard, and safeguarded.

Together, they reflect the power of collective action building a more just, responsive, and compassionate society where every child can grow up safe, respected, and protected.

Selamat Hari Raya from all of us at Protect and Save the Children 💚

As we celebrate this meaningful season of reflection, compassion, and togetherness, we are reminded of the importance of creating a world where every child feels safe, protected, and loved.

Eid is not only a time of joy, but also a call to extend kindness beyond our homes to our communities, especially to children who need care, protection, and a voice.

Let us continue to stand together to build safer environments for every child, where their rights are upheld and their futures are protected.

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Eid filled with peace, warmth, and compassion.

Children don’t always have the language to describe when something online feels unsafe. That’s why understanding the signs of online harm from grooming and catfishing to sextortion and cyberbullying is so important.

When children can identify red flags early, they are more likely to stop, question what’s happening, and reach out for help before harm escalates. Spotting pressure, secrecy, or manipulation online gives them the confidence to act and stay safer.

Adults play a critical role too listen without judgement, keep evidence, and report concerns promptly.

Creating safer online spaces starts with awareness, open conversations, and taking action when it matters most.

IWD 2026 Part II - We continue to celebrate women who are shaping safer futures for children across Malaysia.

Across communities, systems, and sectors, women are leading efforts to protect children from harm, strengthen child rights, and ensure no child is left behind. From advancing legal reforms and ethical media standards, to delivering frontline care, education access, and inclusive services these contributions are building a stronger, more responsive child protection ecosystem.

Their work supports child survivors of violence, uplifts marginalised communities including refugee and disabled children, and empowers everyday people to become active protectors of children.

This collective leadership reflects courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice. It reminds us that meaningful change happens when communities come together to prioritise the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child.

Children often don’t have the words to explain when something online feels wrong. That’s why recognising the warning signs of online harms from grooming and catfishing to sextortion and cyberbullying is critical for parents, educators, and communities.

When adults can identify red flags early, we can step in, support the child, and stop the harm before it escalates.

When children can identify red flags early, they are better able to pause, question unsafe interactions, and seek help from a trusted adult before the situation escalates. Recognising manipulation, secrecy, or pressure online can empower children to protect themselves and others.

If you suspect a child is being harmed online, listen without judgement, preserve evidence, and report it to the relevant authorities.

Protecting children online is a shared responsibility. Awareness, vigilance, and timely action can make all the difference.

Speak up, because silence protects perpetrators, not children.

Children deserve safe spaces, both online and offline.

In a recent interview with Free Malaysia Today, Amnani A. Kadir, Executive Director of Protect and Save the Children (PS The Children), highlighted the urgent need for social media platforms to be held accountable for harmful content, particularly content linked to child sexual abuse and exploitation.

“Preventing child sexual abuse must be proactive, rather than reactive,” said Amnani, stressing the importance of stronger safeguards, monitoring systems, and accountability from technology companies.

This International Women’s Day, we launch our March campaign to celebrate women who have strengthened Malaysia’s child protection movement.

Throughout this month, we will spotlight women leaders, advocates, social workers, educators, and community champions who have dedicated their work to ensuring that children in Malaysia are safe, protected, and empowered.

From advancing child sexual abuse prevention, strengthening social work practice, supporting street-connected children, to creating learning opportunities for vulnerable communities their leadership has shaped safer environments for countless children.

This campaign is our way of recognising the women whose courage, compassion, and commitment continue to move the child protection agenda forward in Malaysia. Follow along this March as we honour the women who remind us that protecting children is a shared responsibility and that when women lead, communities become stronger and safer.

On this International Women’s Day, we honour the strength of women who stand up for children.

Women play a crucial role in protecting children from abuse and violence. Many survivors of child sexual abuse are girls, and their voices deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.

Behind every safe child is often a mother, teacher, social worker, counsellor, or advocate who refuses to stay silent.

At P.S. The Children, we work to ensure child survivors receive protection, care, and justice. Empowering women means strengthening the safety net for children everywhere.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate women who protect, support, and advocate for children because protecting children is everyone’s responsibility.
