Yayasan AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia and the entire AFS community mourn the passing of Allahyarhamah Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, a remarkable Malaysian woman whose life of service in medicine, public health and community welfare touched generations.
For the AFS community, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah holds a particularly special place in our history. Long before she became known around the world as a national figure, she opened her home and her heart as an AFS host mother. In 1971, she welcomed Lauren Hesse, and in 1974, she welcomed Guy Gould, offering them not merely a place to stay, but the warmth, care and sense of belonging of a Malaysian family.
That simple but profound act of opening one’s home to a young person from another country embodies the very heart of AFS: building bridges between cultures, one person, one family and one friendship at a time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, their children and the entire family during this time of loss.
May Allah SWT shower His mercy upon her soul, forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannatul Firdaus. May her family be granted strength, patience and comfort in this difficult time.
