I saw this quote today and I thought it was a great reminder and learning for all of us.
Life is already challenging enough. We work hard to build our careers and businesses, manage the stress of our daily routines, deal with traffic jams, take care of our families and look after our health so that we can continue to live well. These are just some of the many challenges we face every day.
Along the way, we will inevitably come across people who may be inconsiderate, impatient or selfish. We see it on the road, in public places and especially in the service industry. In retail and restaurants, for example, there are sometimes customers who believe that “the customer is always right” and expect employees to accept whatever is said to them without being able to explain or defend themselves.
Today, social media has made this even more challenging. When someone is unhappy with a service, it is very easy to post a complaint online or give a business a one-star rating. Sometimes the complaint may be justified, but sometimes it may be unfair or based on only one side of the story. What we may not realise is that a few words written in anger can affect the reputation of a business that someone has spent many years working hard to build. It can also hurt the people behind that business who are simply trying their best to do their jobs.
Social media has given everyone a voice, which can be a wonderful thing. But with that voice also comes responsibility. Just look at the comments on Facebook or online news. So many are filled with criticism, anger and negativity, while words of encouragement and appreciation seem much less common.
I wish we could all learn to focus a little more on the good in people. Of course, when something is genuinely wrong, we should speak up but we can still do it fairly, respectfully and with kindness.
Before we criticise, perhaps we can try to understand. Before we complain, perhaps we can give someone a chance to make things right. And when we see something good, let us also take the time to acknowledge and appreciate it.
Life is already difficult enough for everyone. We never truly know what another person may be going through.
“In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND.”
I hope the world will continue to have more people who choose to be patient, considerate, understanding and above all, KIND 🙏🙏🙏❤️
