The South China Sea remains one of Southeast Asia’s most persistent maritime security challenges.

In a new study, Khalisha Ainna Putri examines ASEAN’s contemporary response to the dispute and Indonesia’s distinctive position as both a regional mediator and defender of its maritime rights in the North Natuna Sea.
