Thank you for praying intentionally for OM’s and our partners’ work in the Horn of Africa.

Please continue to pray for new believers without any fellowship. May those who are lonely or who experience persecution receive real comfort from the Holy Spirit and the right connections to others who can build them up. Thank God for social media – but pray for physical friendships in faith as well.

In the countries of the Horn of Africa, believers in Christ face many forms of persecution. They could lose their family, their job, and their freedom: many local pastors are in prison for their faith.

Despite this, believers still serve God with joy and are resolute in the face of persecution.

“What would it take for a camel herder to follow Jesus?” a missionary asked a nomadic man in the 1970s. The reply he received was, “When you can put the church on the back of a camel.”

Fifteen years ago, a group of Somali believers purchased camels and trained Jesus followers to roam nomadic herding communities, laden with Bibles and solar-powered smartphones.

On 11 July 2026, OM in Malaysia was among 12 organisations invited to set up a booth at the MMM-TMC Missions Conference 2026 held at the Port Dickson Methodist Center.

Over 390 participants, including children, teens and adults, from 59 Tamil Methodist Churches across Malaysia were able to immerse themselves over three days into how God is working throughout the world and how they could be a part of it.

It was wonderful to be part of an inter-generational event to help believers understand that God's mission is not only for the adults or theologically trained but for everyone, regardless of their skill set or age.

Somali women often feel helpless and abandoned in their personal lives, with fathers deciding who their daughter will marry, and husbands being permitted to find someone else if their wife becomes ill or cannot have children.

Eighteen women who have chosen to follow Jesus have received trauma healing and are returning to their communities around the Horn of Africa.

So we rejoice that in July 2025, 12 Somali Jesus followers took part in a three-month discipleship training school and have returned to live and minister in their home towns.

During the coming days, Jesus followers from all over the world will be praying intentionally for people living in the Horn of Africa to come to know the love of Jesus.

From 1-12 July, we are focusing our prayers on the Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia.

OM’s team partners with colleagues serving across Africa, as well as local same-culture workers, to share the love of Christ with Somali people groups in the Horn.
