Workshop by NSA (Penang) at the 14th SEAMEO Young Scientist Programme

A workshop conducted by NSA (Penang) was successfully held in conjunction with the 14th SEAMEO Young Scientist Programme at the hall of SEAMEO RECSAM, Gelugor. The programme gathered approximately 50 secondary school students from ASEAN countries, namely the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. It aimed to nurture students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through interactive, hands-on, and collaborative learning experiences.

During the workshop, participants were divided into mixed-nationality groups to encourage cross-cultural interaction, teamwork, and the exchange of ideas. Three main activities were conducted:

1. STEM Maize Jigsaw Rush
This problem-solving activity required students to assemble and organize information related to maize science using a jigsaw puzzle format. It challenged their critical thinking, analytical skills, and teamwork while working against time.

2. Team Maze Challenge
In this activity, teams navigated through a specially designed maze filled with obstacles. The challenge emphasized communication, strategic planning, leadership, and cooperation among team members.

3. Spinning Cup
A fun yet engaging game that tested coordination, precision, and creativity. It also introduced basic physics concepts in an enjoyable and interactive way.

NSA (Penang) expressed their sincere appreciation for the invitation to be part of this meaningful programme. The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive, with participants actively engaged, enthusiastic, and happy throughout the activities. Beyond strengthening STEM knowledge, the workshop also fostered friendship, confidence, and collaboration among students from different ASEAN countries.

Overall, the programme provided not only academic enrichment but also memorable learning experiences that will benefit the students in their future educational journeys.

From 6–11 February 2026, a delegation from Toho University consisting of two lecturers, Prof. Toshinobu Hatanaka and Prof. Takahashi, along with five undergraduate students, Kurosu Keito, Narishima Azumi, Yajima Chisato, Isomura Miyu and Shirota Yubi, visited Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.

The group was warmly welcomed by NSA Penang, who received them upon arrival at Penang International Airport. On 7 February, the hosts organized a local tour to introduce the visitors to several popular attractions around Penang.

The visit was also supported by four students from Universiti Sains Malaysia and one student from Universiti Teknologi MARA, who acted as buddies and assisted the Toho University students with their assignments throughout the program.

Among the places visited were Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si Temple, Sanaen Dairy Farm in Balik Pulau, and the local night market in Balik Pulau.

Sesi lawatan dan penyelidikan Lesson Study diteruskan ke SK Chong Teik, Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang. Suasana sekolah yang cantik dan ekslusif membuatkan delegasi NSACPP dan Prof. Toshi menjadi kagum. Proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran sains telah dijalankan oleh guru. Pihak NSACPP amat menghargai dan berterima kasih di atas layanan dan kerjasama yang telah diberikan oleh pengetua, para guru dan murid-murid SK Chong Teik.

Rangka lawatan dan penyelidikan Lesson Study diteruskan ke SK Bagan Tuan Kechil, Butterworth, Seberang Perai Tengah. Delegasi dari NSACPP bersama Prof. Toshi telah disambut oleh paluan kompang oleh kanak=kanak sekolah rendah dan pertunjukan silat dan tarian seni Melayu oleh kanak-kanak Pra Sekolah yang sungguh comel.
Kemudian rombongan NSACPP dibawa ke bilik seminar sekolah untuk sesi pengajaran dan pembelajansains oleh Puan Salwana. Pihak NSACPP amat berterima kasih atas sambutan dan kerjasama dari Pengetua, para guru dan murid-murid yang terlibat.

NSACPP bersama Profesor Toshinobu Hatanaka dari Toho University, Japan telah mengunjungi SK Kroh, Daerah Pengkalan Hulu, Perak bagi melihat suasana pengajaran dan pembelajaran sains oleh Guru Cemerlang, En Ahmad Adnan. Kehadiran ahli/ AJK NSACPP bersama Prof. Toshi adalah juga dalam rangka lawatan bagi penyelidikan Lesson Study yang telah dipersetujui sejak tahun 2024 lagi. Pihak NSACPP amat terhutang budi atas kerjasama yang telah diberikan oleh Pengetua dan para guru serta murid-murid tahun lima SK Kroh.

‘Program Karnival Sustainability Education & Eco Discovery (SEED): Grow with ESD 2025’

Program pertandingan inovasi, pameran STEM, jualan pelbagai produk, pelbagai pertandingan untuk penduduk setempat telah diadak di SJKC Chong Teik, Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang.

Pameran NSA telah disertai oleh Wan Mazlina Wan Mehammud dan Chen Jiao. Manakala, juri jemputan dari NSA adalah ChM Dr Nur Jahan Ahmad dan ChM Dr Marina Mokhtar.

Program kerjasama antara NSA dan pihak sekolah ini dapat membantu ketampaka NSA, dan hubungan bersama sekolah aliran cina.
