Giving back never felt so good! ❤️

Last Saturday, March 14, our Lean In Network Penang volunteers spent a meaningful morning at the Children’s Protection Society Penang.

In the spirit of International Women’s Day and our theme , we traded our usual meetings for games, laughter, and quality time with some truly incredible kids.

We are so grateful to have pulled this together in partnership with Penang Women’s Development Corporation and Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), and our Lean In Penang donors.

Because of your generosity, we raised essential funds for the children’s meals and groceries, as well as goodie bags filled with in-kind contributions. 🎁

A huge thank you to every volunteer who showed up and every donor who contributed. This was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together! 🌟

Jeannie Ooi reflects on how leading her Circle has been a most fulfilling experience. Read her story below ⬇️

Leading a Lean In Circle with Lean In Network Penang under “Women At Work” has shown me what it truly means to go further—together.

Our circle became more than a discussion space. It evolved into a trusted support system where women encouraged one another to move from intention to action. Through honest conversations, shared experiences, and consistent encouragement, I witnessed meaningful progress across our members’ journeys.

Some members stepped into well-deserved promotions or made bold career transitions, changing roles with clarity and confidence to pursue growth.

One dared to dream bigger by taking on an overseas assignment she once thought was out of reach.

Another, already running a corporate training business, stepped forward to pursue a significant project milestone—backing herself, her expertise, and the value she brings.

Many also grew into leadership roles through volunteering with Lean In Network Penang, discovering their voice and influence beyond the workplace, making positive impacts in the community!

What made this possible was the circle itself — a space where challenges were met with understanding, ambitions were spoken out loud, and courage was strengthened through collective belief.

As a Circle Leader, watching women support one another and take decisive steps forward has been deeply fulfilling.

This experience reaffirmed my belief that women don’t go further alone—we go further together. And that is the true power of a Lean In Circle.

“How has my Circle helped me?

While connecting with a group of inspiring women, having fun with new acquaintances, and exploring what makes each of us shine, I found myself reflecting on what leadership truly means — not just in our work, but in how we carry ourselves every day.

Leadership is more than a title or role — it’s about presence, authenticity, and confidence.

During our Circle Meetup, we explored personal branding and presence, discussing how appearance, colour, posture, and self-expression contribute to how we lead and influence others.

We played a fun Spin the Wheel activity to spark conversation, and everyone reflected on which aspect of leadership they want to embody more.

As a special takeaway, every participant received a makeup kit to continue their personal branding journey at home — a reminder to embrace self-care, confidence, and their unique style.

New ideas to explore, new connections, lots of laughter, and hearts full of inspiration, with a gentle reminder to continue how to shine as a leader at your workplace.

Circle leader, Stephanie, leads the Saying Yes To Me circle that helps women to focus on self love and self discovery.

“How has my Circle helped me?

While giving back to a group of wonderful women, having fun with new acquaintances, and seeing my Circle members in their happiest selves expressing themselves through colours, I found myself diving deeper into the topic of self-love.

Self-love requires practice — until it becomes something natural in our lives.

As I explore different topics with my Circle members in every meetup, it supports my own journey of knowing myself better and becoming a better person.

During our first Circle Meetup, right after the kickoff, we explored Reconnecting with Myself: The Pause. We took a beautiful pause from the rush of life and spent the morning reconnecting with ourselves through batik painting at Rozana’s Workshop.

Rozana shared something meaningful — that colours come from the heart, and every painting is a reflection of our true self.

I shared a simple analogy during the session — shower thoughts. We often get our craziest ideas in the shower, not because there’s magic in the water, but because we’ve finally paused.

The pause allows our minds and bodies to relax, creating space for creativity and clarity.

As a call to action, I invited my Circle members to cultivate a habit of pause — and if they’re already practising, to share their ways with the group.

There goes the summary of our first Circle Meetup — new topics to ponder, new acquaintances, lots of laughter, hands stained with batik dye, and hearts stained with a reminder to continue Saying Yes To Me.”

It is always a good idea to connect, inspire, and support other women. And that’s just what we did last Saturday for the Circle Kick-offs.

For the next 6 months, each Circle will be meeting to set goals together and cheer each other on as they work towards becoming a better version of themselves.
