Lions Clubs Deliver Hunger Relief to 40 Penampang Families Affected by Floods and Landslides
16 November 2025 | Penampang, Sabah
The Lions Clubs of Labuan Mandarin, KK Damai, and Penampang Host jointly carried out a Hunger Relief project today to support 40 families (140 individuals) displaced by the floods, landslides, and slope failures caused by the heavy rains in mid-September 2025.
Currently housed at the PSS ILMAN Institut Latihan Mahkamah Anak Negeri, Kg Kibabaig, the affected families — consisting of 97 adults and 43 children, including 5 infants — are awaiting relocation under Perumahan SMJ or other suitable arrangements after their homes were declared structurally unsafe.
This humanitarian initiative, with a total project value of RM15,400, provided 40 food packs funded through contributions from the recent Lions Bazaar 3.0. Included within the project value are electric rice cookers and electric jug kettles, supplied as post-flood household aid funded by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) through District 308-A2, which also supports other flood-affected families in Penampang.
Additional contributions were received from D**g Sin Food Sdn Bhd, Jiabao Sdn Bhd, and the Lions Clubs of Labuan Mandarin and KK Downtown, strengthening the support extended to the families.
The project was led by Organising Chairperson President Alice Chin (LC KK Damai) with Co-Chair President Dr Randolf P. Tsen (LC Penampang Host).
Remarks by Organising Chairperson President Alice Chin
Speaking at the event, OC Alice expressed the collective spirit behind the project:
> “On behalf of the organising clubs, we extend our care and solidarity to all families affected by the recent floods and landslides. The funds raised through Lions Bazaar 3.0 made it possible to prepare and deliver food packs to forty families. We know this may not meet every need, but we hope it brings some comfort as they rebuild their lives.
We are deeply honoured by the presence of our District Governor, who took an early flight from Miri to be with us. We also thank our sponsors — Shoon Fatt Biscuit & Confectionery Sdn Bhd, Gains Global Fit, Food Town Supermarket, and other supporters — and all Lions members for their hard work and teamwork. As Lions, we will continue to serve wherever help is needed.”
Remarks by District Governor Dato’ Winnie Lee
District Governor Dato’ Winnie Lee, who served as the Guest of Honour, highlighted the significance of the effort:
> “In September, Penampang faced one of its most difficult periods. Homes were damaged, roads were cut off, and families were forced to leave everything behind. For them, every act of help matters.
This joint Hunger Relief Project is more than a distribution of essentials. It is a message of solidarity — a reminder that these families are not forgotten, and that the Lions community stands with them. To every Lion who contributed time, effort, or resources, thank you. Let us continue to serve because our community needs us.”
