كنتم خير أمة أخرجت للناس تأمرون بالمعروف وتنهون عن المنكر وتؤمنون بالله
Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors.
(Ali ‘Imran:110)
‘The best of peoples” is a term bestowed exclusively by Allah glorified is He and exalted (swt) upon the followers of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The attributes of “the best of peoples” (khairu ummah) are the enjoining of what is right, the forbidding of what is wrong and belief in Allah swt in keeping with the creed (aqidah) of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions (may Allah have mercy on them), i.e. Whenever any community transgresses the laws of the Creator of the universe, He sends to the community a prophet to guide them back to the right path. Allah has decreed:
وانما أنت منذر ولكل قوم هاد
But thou ( O Muhammad) art truly a warner, and to every people a guide.”(Ar-Ra’d:7)
However, after the coming of the final prophet, it is the ulama’ or Islamic religious scholars who are entrusted with the responsibility of reforming mankind or of correcting things. They are the heirs and the custodians of Islamic knowledge, education and of the mission of dakwah or of calling people to the religion of Allah. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) stated: “The ulama’ are the heirs to the Prophet …” (Bukhari, Turmizi and others). The development of the ulama’ as heirs of the prophet is dependent on firmly established Islamic education and training (tarbiyah). This development begins with a carefully compiled and holistic system that can be realised with the establishment of a madrasah. The beginnings of this lie in the discussion circles (halaqah) the Prophet (pbuh) conducted with the ahl as-Suffah and which have continued till today. Similarly, to aim for and to regulate the institution of the ulama’ as one that truly inherits the knowledge and dakwah of the prophet, there has to exist an established and strong group. It is with this realisation that Khairu Ummah was officially established on 11 May 2009 / 16 Jumada Al-Ula 1430 to develop a strong and prestigious institution of ulama’ as the heirs of the prophets, thus developing mankind into “the best of peoples”.

كنتم خير أمة أخرجت للناس تأمرون بالمعروف وتنهون عن المنكر وتؤمنون بالله
Maksudnya: “Kamu adalah sebaik-baik ummah yang dilahirkan untuk manusia sejagat, kamu menyeru kepada kebaikan dan mencegah kemungkaran serta beriman kepada Allah.”(Ali ‘Imran:110)
Gelaran sebaik-baik ummah adalah gelaran khusus yang diberikan oleh Allah Taala terhadap umat Nabi Muhammad SAW . Sifat-sifat mereka yang bergelar ‘Khairu Ummah’ (sebaik-baik umat) ini ialah menyeru kepada kebaikan dan mencegah segala kemungkaran serta beriman dengan Allah Taala dengan aqidah yang dipegangi oleh Nabi SAW dan para sahabatnya iaitu Aqidah Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamaah. Apabila sesuatu kaum manusia telah menyimpang daripada syariat Pencipta alam semesta, maka menjadi sunnahNya bahawa diutuskan para Rasul untuk mengembalikan semula mereka kepada jalan yang lurus. FirmanNya :
وانما أنت منذر ولكل قوم هاد
Maksudnya: “Sesungguhnya engkau (Wahai Muhammad!) hanyalah pemberi peringatan, dan bagi tiap-tiap kaum manusia itu ada seseorang yang memberi pertunjuk”.(Ar-Ra’d:7)
Setelah berakhirnya pangkat kenabian, tugas mengislahkan umat manusia diamanahkan kepada para ulama’ yang mana mereka adalah pewaris yang mewarisi keilmuan, pentarbiyahan dan dakwah daripada para anbiya. Mereka itu mewarisi keilmuan….” (Bukhari, Turmizi dll)
Untuk membentuk ciri-ciri ulama’ sebagai pewaris nabi yang sebenar adalah tertakluk di bawah suatu pendidikan dan pentarbiyahan yang mantap. Pembentukan ini bermula dalam satu kelompok di bawah satu sistem yang tersusun. Hal demikian dapat direalisasikan dengan pembinaan sebuah madrasah. Usaha ini merupakan warisan halaqah pengajian Rasulullah SAW bersama Ahli Suffah dan seterusnya berterusan di setiap zaman bersesuaian dengan keadaan semasa. Begitu juga, untuk membidik serta mengawal institusi ulama’ yang benar-benar mewarisi ilmu, tarbiyah dan dakwah para anbiya, semestinya ada suatu Jamaah (ikatan sekumpulan) yang mantap dan teguh. Di atas kesedaran inilah, tercetusnya penubuhan ‘Khairu Ummah’, suatu pertubuhan yang rasmi (11 Mei 2009M / 16 Jumadas Saniah 1430) bagi memperkasa dan memartabatkan institusi ulama pewaris anbiya, seterusnya mereka dapat membentuk umat manusia sebagai ‘Sebaik-baik Ummah’.
