Members of Soroptimist International of Melaka participated in the SISEAP Conference of Clubs held in Kota Kinabalu, a meaningful biennial gathering that brings together sister clubs from across the South East Asia Pacific region.
This conference united representatives from 13 countries and territories — Australia, Cambodia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, and Thailand — creating a valuable platform to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another’s impactful projects and community initiatives.
This year’s conference placed strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, food security, and internet-related initiatives, reflecting the growing importance of building resilient and inclusive communities in today’s changing world. Through meaningful discussions, shared experiences, and collaboration, the conference strengthened friendships and inspired new ideas to continue serving and empowering communities across the region.
Among the inspiring presentations shared during the conference were Heal the Teal by SIANZ on reducing the impact of ovarian cancer on women in New Zealand, Desertification and Reforestation in Mongolia by SI Ulaanbaatar, From Fast Fashion to Sustainable Action: Empowering Communities to Reduce Textile Waste presented by Sylvia Heywood from New Zealand, and Clean Water for Rural Communities by SIROM. These initiatives highlighted the collective efforts of Soroptimists across the region in addressing health, environmental sustainability, education, and community well-being through meaningful grassroots action.
As we return home from this conference, we carry with us not only new knowledge and friendships, but also renewed inspiration and purpose. Every project shared reminds us that even small acts of service can create lasting impact in the lives of others. Together, we are encouraged to continue serving with compassion, leading with purpose, and empowering communities — one meaningful action at a time.
