Thank you everyone who came and took part and contributed to this workshop Kontah Stori: What does your identity as a Portuguese Eurasian youth mean to you in 2026?

It was a beautiful process to see this workshop unfold and so grateful for all the Divine appointments to get there. Held with an intimate group of twelve youth and adults sharing their perspective, the workshop was facilitated by Janice Hew and Fong Mun Hong.

At the end of the workshop we asked what the participants enjoyed about the experience and one participant said “I enjoyed recalling memories growing up,” while another said “my culture gives me a sense of belonging.”

It was a privilege to host this workshop, which was done in collaboration with the Melaka Portuguese Eurasian Heritage Arts & Cultural Society. We do hope to continue building such activities, also for youth of different communities too.

With gratitude to Martin Theseira, Gloria John, Angel Sta Maria, Natassa Sta Maria and the teachers from Canossa Convent, who supported this by encouraging their students to participate. And to our volunteer facilitators Mun Hong and Janice who so generously gave of themselves, coming all the way from KL to help us out. It indeed takes a village.

Participants will also be able to submit stories for the Baba Nyonya Literary Festival, organized by The Peranakan Association Singapore. Entries close May 31st and much thanks to May Ling also for the support of this initiative.

Thank you Sze Ning and El Roi for giving the opportunity to support and see the work that you guys do.

It was such a privilege to serve a company of forty guests from Bangladesh last night. The dinner was part of a full day tour organized by Dari Dapur, an organization that helps build dialogue between Malaysians and migrants, to help us see beyond our current understanding. The conversation touched upon how the peranakan story is also a story of migration, of a people group who came from their home country; in search of better opportunities. The dinner ended with a thoughtful quiz led by Kevin Thomas on labour and migration in melaka.

Serving our guests last night was an opportunity to see that our roots are really not so different.

Thank you Dari Dapur; El Roi and Sze Ning and a special shout out also to Sami and Kevin for doing the work that you guys do, bridging the gap.

Thank you also to our Melakan community:

A great way to know a city!

Re-post:

We’re excited to share a meaningful milestone from our students’ Civic Action Project 🌱

Over the past months, they have explored the issue of food security — from nutrition and food sources to sustainable farming. They even experienced the full journey from planting to cooking.

Now, they invite you to support their learning through a special Farm-to-Table Dinner, where their ideas come to life 🍽️

🌾 Chemical-free Melaka rice
🌿 Fresh, responsibly grown vegetables
🐔 Free-range chicken from natural farms

It may not be perfect, but it is real, thoughtful, and made with heart.

Your presence would mean a lot — come support our students and be part of this conversation on food and sustainability.
