BANGKOK – On September 24, 2025, a massive sinkhole triggered by tunneling work for an underground metro line caused a section of Samsen Road in front of Vajira Hospital to collapse. The incident occurred in the early morning, prompting the evacuation of the hospital and nearby areas.
While the hospital’s main structure remains intact, damage was reported to two or three foundation piles at the adjacent Samsen Police Station, along with nearby row houses.
Following the collapse, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) suspended water supply in central Bangkok—including the Khaosan Road area—after a 1,200 mm main water pipe was damaged beneath Samsen Road.
