The Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group is a Non-Profit and Non-Government Organisation that aims to provide support and promote breast awareness to the Sarawak, East Malaysia community by numerous health screenings, talks and motivational activities. The Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group (SBCSG) was first initiated by one of the survivors together with the oncologist and staff of the radiothera
py unit of the Sarawak General Hospital in 1993. Sister Molen Ahua was elected as the first president of the support group and Dr Beena Dewi was the advisor. In the beginning, all the support group activities were held at the radiotherapy unit of the Sarawak General Hospital. In 2005, the SBCSG was given a bungalow by the Sarawak state government for their use as the centre at Lorong Maxwell 2, Kuching. The SBCSG moved into the new centre in July 2006 after it was renovated by the Public Works Department (JKR). The building, which is named "Matahari" is now operational to provide a pool of resources and a helpline especially to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. It is also an avenue where women can come and seek face to face support, counseling and sharing of personal experiences with their fellow 'sisters' here. To date, the SBCSG is growing strong with more than 200 registered members
