Deaf Community & Inclusion Awareness Program: One Heart, A Thousand Signs
Serian, 21 May 2026
The program held at SMK Tarat was successfully carried out through a collaboration between Year 3 Social Work students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, and Sarawak Deaf Community Services Association.
The program aimed to raise awareness about the Deaf community, introduce the basics of Malaysian Sign Language (BIM), and foster a spirit of inclusion among students and the wider community.
Our sincere appreciation and thanks to the school administration, teachers, facilitators, and all participants for their support and cooperation throughout the program. May this initiative continue to create more opportunities for understanding, strengthen mutual respect, and encourage greater acceptance of the Deaf community.
“One Heart, A Thousand Signs” is more than just a theme—it represents unity, understanding, and togetherness beyond communication barriers.
