WONDER what a Ah counter role in Toastmaster’s meeting?

An Ah-Counter is a meeting role in public speaking organizations like Toastmasters.

Their job is to listen carefully and track unnecessary filler sounds (like "ah," "um," and "er") and crutch words (like "so," "well," and "you know") used by anyone who speaks during a gathering.

Toastmasters International Counting on the Ah-Counter and Toastmasters International 3 Ways to Make Ah-Counting Count For More for helpful tips helping Speakers to reduce the filler words and speak more professionally.

What the Ah-Counter TracksFiller sounds: "Ah," "um," "er," "uh," or "hmm".Crutch words: "So," "well," "and," "but," "like," or "you know".

Repeated phrases: Double-clutches like "I-I" or "this means-this means".

Purpose of the RoleBuild awareness: Help speakers notice verbal habits they use instead of silence.

Improve flow: Encourage speakers to use brief, confident pauses instead of noise.

Sharpen listening: Give the person in the role a chance to practice active listening.
