Grateful for a meaningful afternoon with Ain Husniza, founder of , as we explored how social media can be a powerful tool for social impact.

From digital activism to authentic storytelling, the session brought together passionate Sarawakian youth for honest conversations on using our voices responsibly, creatively, and courageously. It was inspiring to see students engage, ask critical questions, and reflect on how online spaces can translate into real-world change.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion. Conversations like these remind us that youth leadership and collective learning remain central to building a more just and informed society.

At .my, our motion, “Forest Loss, Fragmentation, and Wildlife Decline in Sarawak: A Call for Effective Governance and Conservation Reform,” passed with overwhelming support (52-0-0).

This victory reflects the urgent need to address the crisis: Sarawak has lost a staggering 80% of its primary forest in just four decades.

This destruction is causing several species to lose connected habitats, and is leading to water contamination, disrupted livelihoods, and erosion of cultural identity for indigenous communities.

The motion mandates stronger, rights-based governance, requiring stricter protection of remaining primary forests and the creation of wildlife corridors.

Essential actions include strengthening the recognition and protection of indigenous customary land rights and implementing transparent monitoring and stronger enforcement against illegal logging.

The call to action further prompted questions regarding what CSOs from the rest of Malaysia can do to help and whether the federal government can come in and help, urging a swift collective advocacy effort.

Freedom of speech is not a threat, silence is.

Recent remarks by Sarawak Deputy Premier warning against “self-serving experts” on social media risk sending the wrong message: that only politicians are allowed to speak, and independent voices must stay quiet. Young Sarawakians, civil society, and community leaders all play a vital role in questioning decisions, holding leaders accountable, and shaping a better Sarawak.

Unity is not built by silencing discussion, it’s built through dialogue, transparency, and respect. Sarawak thrives when its people are informed, engaged, and fearless.

Pertiwi Progresif stands united with 33 other CSOs in affirming that Sarawak’s natural resources rightfully belong to the people of Sarawak.

The message is unambiguous: Sarawak’s petroleum, oil, and gas ownership is protected by law and history. We stressed that any corporation operating here must do so in full cooperation with the Sarawak Government and with deep respect for our regulations.

For young Sarawakians, this issue is deeply personal. We see the immense wealth generated by our oil and gas, yet many of our rural communities remain underdeveloped. Roads remain unpaved, healthcare access is unequal, and many graduates still leave Sarawak in search of better opportunities.

The youth are asking: If these resources are truly ours, why are we not feeling the full benefit of them?

Sarawak’s natural wealth belongs to her people, not to external interests, and certainly not to political convenience.

Pertiwi Progresif held its very first programme, “Not Just The Future: Youth Are Here Now,” in conjunction with WAK Festival 2025 at the Borneo Cultures Museum.

The event brought together inspiring Sarawakians, Dr. Jawing Chunggat, Sulie Abell, and Melvin Jangga, who shared their stories of purpose, perseverance, and impact. Each reminded us that youth leadership isn’t something to wait for, it’s something we live out every day. ⚡️

From empowering communities and supporting local farmers to driving innovation through technology, this is proof that Sarawakian youths are already shaping the world around us. 🌏

A heartfelt thank you to the speakers and everyone who showed up, supported, and made our first programme a success.

The rise in violence, bullying, and gender-based exploitation in Malaysian schools is a systemic crisis. The recent cases prove the system is broken and failing to protect our children. Announcing slogans only addresses symptoms.

It’s time to rebuild an ecosystem based on trust, safety, and human values.

The Ministry of Education must conduct transparent investigations, hold perpetrators and negligent authorities accountable, and the Minister must accept full responsibility.
