UMPSA Strengthens Global Ties, Explores Strategic Collaboration for 4+0 Dual Degree Programme with Ludong University

GAMBANG, 4 March 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to advance its internationalisation agenda by exploring a potential strategic partnership with Ludong University (LDU), China. The strategic collaboration meeting, held at the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), highlighted a shared commitment to developing innovative global education models and promoting academic excellence.

The Ludong University delegation was welcomed by the Director of UMPSA Global, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizam Mohmad Kahar, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing (FK), along with the management teams of FIST and FK. The delegation, led by Assoc. Prof. Zhang Yuling, engaged in discussions centred on the proposed 4+0 Dual Degree programme for the Bachelor of Computer Science (UMPSA) and Computing Science & Technology (LDU) programmes. A key feature of the programme includes UMPSA’s “Flying Professors” delivering teaching courses at LDU, showcasing the university’s expertise and teaching quality on an international stage.

In addition to academic collaboration, discussions explored enhancing student mobility based on the principle of reciprocity. Both parties also considered the potential for joint research projects in Computer Science and Materials Science, supported by matching grant mechanisms to encourage innovation and knowledge exchange.

The meeting concluded with a ceremonial exchange of souvenirs between UMPSA and LDU, symbolising the strengthening of ties between the two institutions. Both parties agreed to work closely on drafting and finalising the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the collaboration and ensure a sustainable framework for the dual degree programme.

This engagement reflects UMPSA’s continued commitment to expanding its global network and providing internationally enriched academic opportunities for students and faculty.

UMPSA ATTENDING THE 19TH ANNUAL REVIEW MEETING (ARM) OF THE ASIAN INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY FOR STUDENTS (AIMS) PROGRAMME 2025

A total of nine staff members from UMPSA have been appointed as committee members and participants of the 19th Annual Review of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme 2025, held from 3 to 6 November 2025 at DoubleTree by Hilton, Putrajaya.

The 19th Annual Review Meeting of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme 2025 was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia.

The event brought together distinguished representatives from ASEAN member countries and regional partners, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Cambodia.

Hosted in conjunction with the Festival of Ideas Putrajaya 2025, the 19th ARM AIMS is one of the flagship events supporting Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation through the internationalisation of higher education.

UMPSA was honoured to welcome H.E. Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, together with Ms. Masubuchi Kana, at Pekan Campus. The visit highlighted UMPSA’s strong ties with Japan, with more than 58 alumni who studied in Japan now serving as lecturers, researchers and professionals at the university. A Q&A session was also held with UMPSA academics on research, academic exchange, industry engagement and student mobility. This meaningful visit reaffirms UMPSA’s commitment to further enhancing academic, cultural and industry partnerships with Japan, paving the way for greater collaboration and mutual growth in the years ahead.

UMPSA continues to strengthen global research collaboration! On 8 September 2025, our delegation led by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi, Director of UMPSA Global, visited Imperial College London’s Department of Chemical Engineering. The visit included insightful discussions with Prof. Camille Petit and Prof. Jerry Heng, as well as tours of world-class research facilities such as ATLAS, DigiBAT, and the CO₂ capture pilot plant — highlighting innovations in sustainability and clean energy.

This collaboration opens new opportunities for joint research projects, academic mobility, knowledge exchange, and the development of innovative academic programs such as micro-credentials and global classrooms. The visit was also held in conjunction with UMPSA’s participation at EAIE 2025 in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of our mission to expand international networks and strengthen our position as the ASEAN Advanced TVET Hub by 2030.

UMPSA Strengthens Academic & Research Links with Thaksin University

UMPSA Gambang, 11 August 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), through its Centre for Global Engagement and Centre for Mathematical Sciences, welcomed a delegation from Thaksin University, Thailand, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nopamas Pakkhem, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Digital Innovation, for an official visit to explore new opportunities in academic and research collaboration.

The visit began with Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Sham Mohamad, Dean of the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, presenting the centre’s academic strengths, research expertise, and contributions to advancing mathematics education and interdisciplinary studies.

This was followed by an overview of UMPSA’s vision and strategic direction, where Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi, Director of UMPSA Global, highlighted the university’s expanding global footprint, key internationalisation efforts, collaborative networks, and flagship programmes that position UMPSA as a vibrant hub for cross-border education, research, and innovation.

The delegates also learned about UMPSA’s research ecosystem, presented by Associate Professor Dr. Norhayati Rosli, Director of the Research Management Centre, who outlined competitive grant opportunities, consultation services, and pathways to commercialisation that drive impactful, real-world research.

During the strategic discussion session, both institutions explored a broad range of potential collaborations, including student and staff mobility programmes (both inbound and outbound), international internships, matching grants for joint research, staff attachment schemes, Global Classroom initiatives, micro-credential programmes, and joint research.

This visit highlights UMPSA’s mission to foster impactful international partnerships that promote knowledge sharing, research advancement, and cultural exchange. By working closely with Thaksin University, UMPSA is opening new pathways to address regional and global challenges, drive innovation, and provide transformative learning experiences for students and academics alike.

UMPSA Welcomes Youth Delegation from India

6 August 2025, Pekan - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) had the honour of hosting 32 student delegates and 3 coordinators from India as part of the India-Malaysia Youth Exchange and Study Programme, organised by the Audacious Dreams Foundation in collaboration with the Royal Commonwealth Society Asia Region.

The delegation was warmly received by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Lt. Kol. Prof. Dato' Dr. Ir. Ts. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, along with representatives from UMPSA’s international and academic teams.

During their visit, the delegates were given the opportunity to tour the Motion Capture and Robotics Laboratories at the Faculty of Computing, explore student facilities at Akademi Adab, and participate in a series of engaging and interactive activities designed to foster cross-cultural learning and leadership development.

According to Mr. Maheshwaran, Deputy Director of Communications at the Malaysia Indian Youth Council (MIYC), Kuantan Branch, and the local coordinator for the Indian delegation, the annual visit is a strategic initiative under the cooperation between the Government of India and the State of Pahang. The programme aims to enhance mutual understanding, promote cultural exchange, and facilitate knowledge sharing between both parties.

This initiative not only strengthens bilateral relations but also promotes global understanding, peace, civic values, policy dialogue, and the development of youth leadership through international collaboration.

UMPSA Gambang, 6 August 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA),through its international arm UMPSA Global, was honoured to welcome Dr. Michael Winter and Mr. Mohammad Auji Mohd Shahar from Hokoku Engineering Co., Japan, in a follow-up visit following the recent official engagement by the Vice-Chancellor and UMPSA Global in Osaka.

The delegation was received by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi (Director of UMPSA Global), Professor Ir. Dr. Chin Sim Yee (Senior Director, Centre for Industry and Community Linkages), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Muzamir Hasan, and Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Ngien Su Kong from the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology.

The primary agenda of the visit centred on advancing collaborative research in bamboo fibre technology. Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Ngien and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Muzamir shared UMPSA’s ongoing research efforts, highlighting the promising applications of bamboo fibres as a sustainable and high-performance material in civil engineering, particularly in eco-friendly construction and structural enhancement.

In addition, Prof. Ir. Dr. Chin Sim Yee introduced the upcoming Higher Education Institutions–Industry (HEIs) Summit, to be held during Festival Idea Putrajaya 2025 from 6–7 November. The summit aims to catalyse deeper academia-industry collaboration through research, innovation, and knowledge-sharing platforms.

This visit represents another meaningful milestone in UMPSA’s pursuit of impactful, globally connected research, further strengthening its strategic partnership with Hokoku Engineering and

GLOBAL EXPOSURE IN MANCHESTER

Manchester, 27 July 2025 – Two student leaders from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) are making global strides as they embark on an international mobility experience at Manchester Metropolitan University from 27 July to 3 August 2025.

Representing the Student Representative Council (MPP), Aniq Zamzamy Sibron (Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology - FTKEE) and Fatimah Syazwina Maslan (Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology - FSTI) are actively engaging in academic and cross-cultural learning sessions, while building meaningful connections with peers from around the world.

Their participation follows the Vice-Chancellor’s official visit to the United Kingdom in May 2025, which opened doors to new collaborative opportunities between UMPSA and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Programs like these are designed to equip students with global exposure, boost their confidence, and sharpen communication skills in an international setting – essential traits for future-ready graduates.

UMPSA Global Hosts Delegation from China for Strategic Academic Engagement

Pekan, 31 July 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), through its international arm UMPSA Global, was honoured to host a delegation from China for a strategic academic engagement programme. The delegation was led by Mr. Liao Wenjun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and included senior representatives from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangxi, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, and the Guangxi ASEAN Technology Transfer Center.

The session was officiated by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi, Director of UMPSA Global, who delivered a warm welcoming address. This was followed by an institutional sharing session highlighting UMPSA’s vision, academic strengths, and global engagement efforts, including its commitment to impactful research, innovation, and international collaboration.

The engagement featured focused discussions with representatives from the Faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (FTKEE), the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and the Faculty of Computing. The FTKEE session was led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Herwan Sulaiman, Deputy Dean (Research & Postgraduate Studies), and Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Kamarul Hawari Ghazali, who shared insights into the faculty’s research direction, academic strengths, and ongoing initiatives in electrical and electronics engineering.

Across all sessions, participants explored opportunities for strategic collaboration in academic mobility, joint research, and technological innovation, with a strong focus on advancing cooperation in science, technology, and digital development.

The delegation was also given guided tours of the laboratories at the Faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and the Faculty of Computing, providing them with insights into UMPSA’s facilities, research capabilities, and ongoing industry-linked projects.
