Hi semua,

We'd like to inform everyone that our chapter leaders, Syaz and Anne, will be handing over the reigns of Trash Hero Kuantan to Trash Hero World after volunteering in Kuantan since January 2021.

It has been an enlightening few years, meeting so many like-minded people, making a difference together in our coastal town. We could not do this without the support of all of you, and to everyone involved, near and far, we'd like to say Terima Kasih.

Please continue supporting the work Trash Hero does in Kuantan and elsewhere.

Together, change is never too far 💛

Today the reminder is to pack your food in reusable containers. Any food container you have would do - there is no need to buy new, trendy ones.

We're using a silicone collapsible container from , a plastic food container which was given to us (rather than use it once and throwing it away, we wash and reuse), and the white container is from SJK Chung Ching Kuantan which was given to us during the Kids Program.Of course, our tumbler is a staple!

Little steps go a long way 💛

So, it's Plastic Free July, folks. It is the same for us every other month of the year. We try to reduce our consumption of plastic every single day.

But what happens when we try and we still fail?

For example in our takeaway a few days ago, a plastic sauce container was packed into our reusable container of food.

Well, it isn't the end of the world. The seller probably did not want to put the sauce directly into the food container (as this may soak the rest of the food - not as issue for us, but could be an issue for the seller).

Instead of getting upset about it, we just washed the container clean, and it now stores jewellery to take on travels! At least, it isn't a single-use plastic item used once and thrown away.

We do what we can, and that is enough 💛

As much as we're happy to see bottle caps not on beaches or in waterways, recycling is only a secondary option.

The better solution is to opt for reusables. This way, there will be no bottle caps for recycling. Such a win!

Beach Clean Up No. 76
Collaboration with Uniten Nature Club KSHAS & Ilmiah Club
Location: Pantai Pelindung
Date: 26.04.2025
Number of volunteers: 33 adults

Types of trash collected:
• Single use plastic straws
• Single use plastic bottles, cups, bottle caps
• Food packaging / food wrappers
• Glass bottles
• Rope
• Tins / Cans
• Slippers
• Polystyrene

Weight of trash collected: 38.2 kgs

Thank you to our sponsors:
• Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and Majlis Bandaraya Kuantan for organising transportation of all trash collected at the end of the clean up

Pantai Pelindung now has regular cleaning by Alam Flora personnel so the beach is kept relatively clean, but we still found plastic waste (especially food and drink packaging - and lots of straws!) in the shrubs and around the rocks.

Just one message to people who visit:
Please take your rubbish home. Yes, there are no bins in the area - but if you can carry your food packs to the beach, you can certainly carry your waste back home.

YOUR WASTE = YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Thank you to the team from Uniten who contacted us and made the early morning drive from Muadzam Shah to Kuantan to clean our beach.

We are always happy to have volunteers from schools and universities join us on clean ups.

We appreciate the effort 🙏💛🙌

⏰ Time: 8.30 - 10.00 a.m.

• Gunny sacks / trash bags and cloth gloves will be provided (if you have your own cloth gloves, please bring it along)
• Please bring a reusable water bottle (avoid single use plastic bottles)
• Hat / cap / sunscreen advised
• Ensure you are healthy and keeping well
• Please do not attend if you are presenting flu symptoms
• Open to the public. Children are welcome with parents / guardians

No registration. No costs. Just turn up!
