Philatelic Society of Malaysia (PSM) was established as Selangor Stamp Club (SSC) on September 13, 1947 by its founder, the late Dr. A.R.Kandiah. It held its first exhibition in 1950. With the establishment of the Selangor Club, organised philately in Malaysia has made great strides. National and regional exhibitions of international standards were held regularly, including the 5th FIAP Asian Inte

The Unique World of Philately

Old real estate agreements and legal documents are prized philatelic collectibles because they feature revenue stamps, prominent names, and historical significance.

Surat perjanjian hartanah dan dokumen guaman lama menjadi antara koleksi filateli paling bernilai kerana mempunyai setem hasil cukai selain membabitkan nama individu berpengaruh serta nilai sejarah tersendiri.

The old General Post Office in Kuala Lumpur was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback (1871โ€“1948), then the State Assistant Architect. Like its neighbouring buildings, it features Mughal-style architecture, though without domes, and blends well with the adjacent Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Completed in 1907 at a cost of 100,000 Straits Dollars, the project was undertaken by Singaporean contractor Walter Pallister.

As Kuala Lumpur grew and urbanized over the last century, the General Post Office became increasingly important for mail and telegram services. It later expanded its offerings to include postal and philatelic products, as well as money transfer services, making it a familiar place to many. For senior stamp collectors, the building also holds special memories, as many first day covers were created there.

In 1985, postal services were moved to the current General Post Office located in the Dayabumi Complex. Part of the old General Post Office building was later used by Tourism Malaysia and was listed as a National Heritage Site in 2007 under the name "Bangunan Pejabat Pos Besar (GPO)โ€.

No account of this historic building is complete without mentioning the 0-kilometre marker across the street. Like many old post offices, it marks the official center point from which distances in Malaysia are measured.

With renovations nearing completion, the building will welcome visitors with a refreshed look. We are pleased to announce that the owner and the operator has invited the Philatelic Society Malaysia (PSM) and Pos Malaysia to host a two-day event here. We cordially invite everyone to attend.

| Time: 10am to 8pm

This is a unique opportunity to relive the atmosphere of the GPO of the last century. We look forward to your visit!

Kangar, Perlis | 4 Mei 2026

Sekian, terima kasih.

Kangar, Perlis | 4 May 2026

A key meeting was chaired by Tuan Irzat Rozaidy, Manager of Perlis State Secretary Incorporatiom (PSSI) under the Office of the State Secretary (SUK) of Perlis, for a presentation session by the Philatelic Society Malaysia (PSM) on the proposed organization of the Perlis Royal Stamp Exhibition (5 Nations).

The presentation was led by the President of PSM, Mr. Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, with the presence of representatives from PSM and Pos Malaysia, while several members also participated virtually.

The year 2026 marks Malaysiaโ€™s turn to host this prestigious Five Nations stamp exhibition. Indonesia hosted the event in 2025, while Singapore is scheduled to host in 2027.

Uniquely, this yearโ€™s exhibition will be held in the state of Perlis and will highlight Royal collections and the history of the Perlis Kingdom, alongside the usual competitive classes featured in international exhibitions. Notably, 2026 also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Federation of International Philately (FIP), the global governing body for philately.

Confirmed dates: 24 โ€“ 27 September 2026

Our highest appreciation goes to PSSI Perlis and Pos Malaysia for their strong cooperation and support in making this initiative possible.

Further updates on the Perlis Royal Stamp Exhibition (5 Nations) will be shared from time to time.

Thank you.
