Soroptimist International Damansara

The Damansara branch of Soroptimist International, a global movement of professional women, working towards empowering and enabling women.

Soroptimist International Club of Damansara ("SID") was founded in 1993 by a group of professional women, from a variety of backgrounds looking to educate, enable and empower women and children with a variety of skills to make their mark in the world. We are a strictly non-profit organisation, under the umbrella body of Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia, which in turn is part of the Fed

eration of the South West Pacific. Over the past 20 years we have worked with a variety of organisations from both the corporate and non-profit sectors, and built a variety of long term initiatives aimed at developing women and children.

Some conversations have the power to shape a young person’s future, and our latest community engagement marked the beginning of one of those conversations.

On 18 July 2026, 15 curious and enthusiastic teenagers gathered at PADI’s space in the Bukit Jalil Community Centre for the first session of My Body My Rules, a comprehensive sexuality education programme designed for youth aged 13 to 17. This introductory session was the first of 12 interactive modules that will explore important topics including their bodies, relationships, rights, health and personal safety in a safe and respectful environment.

Working in small groups, participants raised thoughtful and honest questions about their rights, health, safety and growing up. These questions will help the MAU team tailor and prioritise discussions in upcoming sessions, ensuring the programme remains relevant to what matters most to them.

Their willingness to speak up was incredibly encouraging. The curiosity and openness they demonstrated reflected the trust that had already begun to form in just one session. As the workshop came to a close, participants described feeling "happy," "comfortable," and "curious", a promising start to what we hope will be a meaningful learning journey that empowers young people with accurate knowledge, critical thinking and the confidence to make informed decisions.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Session 2 on 8 August 2026.

Some partnerships go beyond sponsorships - they create meaningful change.

Our strategic partnership with Yayasan MR DIY is one that all of us at SID are deeply grateful for and immensely proud of. Over the past six years, we have worked hand in hand on purposeful initiatives that have helped uplift the lives of marginalised children and young people in our community. July 1 marked another significant milestone in that journey.

Yayasan MR DIY generously donated 21 units of desktop computers to support the students of Sekolah Tunas Bakti, Asrama Bahagia and Asrama Sentosa — three centres dedicated to caring for and nurturing children and teenagers who deserve every opportunity to build a better future.

This initiative was yet another thoughtful brainchild of SID senior member Raja Noorma Othman, whose vision continues to inspire impactful projects that make a real difference.

The event, held at the Sekolah Tunas Bakti in Sungai Besi, was officiated by the deputy director of the Federal Territory Social Welfare Department Siti Adibah Abdul Rahman. Representing Yayasan MR DIY was its CSR Manager Fadzrel Abu Bakar.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Yayasan MR DIY for investing in the power of education. Together, we are not just donating computers. We are opening doors to learning and new possibilities. 💛

Proud to partner with MR D.I.Y. in bringing hands-on STEM learning during a day of activity at Sekolah Tunas Bakti. 💙

At Soroptimist International Damansara, we believe empowerment begins with opportunity, encouragement, and exposure. Through this meaningful collaboration, students were able to explore creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork through interactive mechanical STEM kits.

Every build represented more than a project — it reflected resilience, potential, and the belief that brighter futures can always be created.

to an awesome day last year where SI Damansara hosted our annual spelling bee 🐝 competition finals with children from underserved communities. The children from Rumah Hope & Rumah Aman Children’s Home, Desa Mentari B2 Learning Centre, Program Akademik Dan Insaniah of PPR Bukit Jalil and the Myanmar Refugee Community Learning Centre (MRCLC) prepared for months to compete on the big day and it showed in how many of them shone during the competition.

We’re so proud of how hard they works to learn and enhance their spelling skills, as well as their spirit of friendly competition and encouragement amongst one another. Every child deserves such opportunities and we continue to strive to support education, learning and literacy for these children.

Empowerment starts with skills — and grows into self-reliance with the right partnerships. 🧵✨
Soroptimist International Damansara has been supporting women from B40 communities in the Klang Valley to build livelihoods by honing their sewing skills and forming a social enterprise.

The Mentari-Sentul Crafters are a team of local women and refugees who are stitching a better future together by upcycling old fabric and giving it new life in the form of new creations such as bags, masks and more. Amcorp Group has been a valued partner in this journey, commissioning corporate bags and supporting the sustainability of this women-led enterprise. This is impact built on dignity, capability and collaboration, and we’re grateful for thoughtful and intentional partners who support community development ❤️
