IMU Cares

IMU Cares We aim to provide our IMU Family a platform for experiential and holistic learning. Welcome to IMU Cares - Serving the Community.

Launched in October 2002, IMU Cares is one of the platforms under the Community Engagement office that has grown into an important part of University life, providing means for students and staff to engage with the community beyond the University. IMU Cares, also known as the IMU Community Engagement office aims to build and conduct sustainable community engagement activities with the community bey

ond the University. We have aligned ourselves with 4 pillars based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG); namely UN SDG 3, 4, 10 & 12. We advocate good health & well-being, quality education, reduced inequalities and also responsible consumption and production. Through the help of a team of dedicated project and programme coordinators from various academic programmes and corporate staff of IMU, the IMU Cares programme is currently engaging with a total of 78 community partners, in and around the Klang Valley, Seremban, Kluang and Batu Pahat! These include Children & Elderly Homes, Refugee Schools (like the Rohingya & Kachin communities), NGOs (such as the Malaysian Parkinsons Disease Association, Alzheimer Disease Foundation), Urban Poor Communities, Schools, Associations for People with Disabilities and also the Orang Asli community. We are advocates of empowerment - we want to help communities in need learn how to stand strong and strive for a better future. Here are some examples of how we have done so - we have empowered our Kachin community partners to establish their own sewing business, we empowered our elderly friends in the Ti-Ratana Welfare Home to take better care of their mental health, we have educated urban poor families on the importance of a healthy diet and how to attain it with a low cost; among others. With COVID-19 raging in our country, we also have stepped up to support the less fortunate communities via food donations, we have supported our hungry frontliners by providing lunch packs & motivational messages, and we have donated a huge number of Personal Protective Equipment to healthcare personnel battling the pandemic. We also advocate for increased awareness amongst the general public on current issues. For example, we have conducted webinars on road safety issues under our "Safe Drive Saves Lives" campaign, educated the public on Risk Management of COVID-19 and also imparted important information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine to our community.

🧡Beyond Silence & Spectrum Forum: Advancing Inclusion Through Shared Voices and Experiences
đź’™

Recently, IMU Cares and B.R.I.D.G.E. successfully hosted a forum, bringing together passionate advocates, professionals, caregivers, and the community for an afternoon of meaningful conversations and shared purpose.

Through the lived experiences and invaluable insights of our distinguished panellists—Datin Soheir Khatib, Dr. Ong Jun-Jean, En. Mohamad Sazali, and En. Adli—we gained a deeper understanding of the realities faced by the autism and Deaf communities.

From navigating healthcare and education to employment, communication, and everyday life, the forum reminded us that meaningful inclusion begins with listening, understanding, and embracing every individual’s unique strengths and experiences.

As one of the key messages from the forum reminds us, meaningful inclusion is everyone’s responsibility.

Every conversation we have, every barrier we remove, and every opportunity we create brings us one step closer to a society where every voice is heard, valued, and empowered.

Thank you for being part of this journey towards a more inclusive future❤️

On 21st May, our Thursday on Purpose #5, "From Cuttings to Greenery: Plant Propagation Workshop" became more than just a session — it was an experience of learning through hands, observation, and a deeper connection with nature. 🌿

Across 2 hours, participants explored plant propagation through shared insights, live demonstrations, and hands-on practice, where simple cuttings slowly turned into the start of new life.

A total of 19 participants (14 staff members and 5 students) joined in, bringing curiosity and energy that made the space feel alive with questions, learning, and shared discovery.

This workshop was made possible through the collaboration of Encik Mohd Fikri (Director of E Ijau Milennium Explorer) and Encik Tajuddin Manap (Director of Tok Moh Herba Enterprise), whose sharing reminded us that sustainability is something lived and practiced, not just spoken about! 🌍

In the end, it wasn’t just about propagation techniques — but about noticing how growth begins quietly, and how even a simple cutting can hold continuity, care, and change.

Thank you to everyone who participated. See you at our next Thursday on Purpose! 🌱

Healthcare goes beyond clinics and hospitals — it begins with reaching communities, creating awareness, and ensuring care is accessible to everyone. 💛

IMU Cares collaborated with SJAM KSS (Kawasan Selangor Selatan) for the 72nd Mobile Clinic held at Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Insan (PKKII), Happy Garden, on 16th May 2026.

As part of this initiative, our team provided basic health screenings and administered influenza vaccinations to approximately 50 patients.

This was made possible by our dedicated volunteers—medical students and doctors—who came together to serve with compassion. Their willingness to share their time and skills reflects the true spirit of community healthcare.

A heartfelt thank you to for this meaningful collaboration, and to every volunteer and organiser who made this initiative possible. 🌼

Our Thursday on Purpose (ToP) #4 | 16 April 2026 ✨

A beautiful reminder of what happens when we intentionally create space for everyone đź’›

We were truly overwhelmed by the response to “CREATE & CONNECT” — Autism Awareness through Bracelet-Making Workshop, where art met advocacy in the most meaningful way 🤩

Huge shoutout to Autism Cafe Project for leading such an inspiring workshop with their talented creators—and for the absolutely delicious food! 🍽️🔥

To our 38 amazing participants, thank you for showing up, creating, and connecting. Through this session, approximately RM2,500 was raised in support of ACP, while creating meaningful opportunities for connection and interaction across diverse communities.

Every bead strung wasn’t just art—it was a small but powerful step toward building a more inclusive community ✨

Thank you for supporting this IMU Cares initiative, driven by the B.R.I.D.G.E. Committee, as we continue advancing inclusivity together 🤝

The first-ever Thursday on Purpose (TOP) at Clinical Campus, Seremban was a SUCCESS ⚡🤩

Our “Safe & Sound: A Hearing Experience” session on 12 March 2026 brought the perfect mix of curiosity, hands-on discovery, and fun. From testing hearing to exploring the impact of everyday noise—and learning how to protect it—it was amazing to see everyone fully immersed 💡

14 participants showed up, got involved, and walked away with valuable insights on hearing health 👂🎧

Huge shoutout to everyone who made the session so vibrant and engaging!

Change doesn’t happen by chance—it starts with conversations that matter 🌱

At our second Thursday on Purpose, "MOVE THE NEEDLE: IMU Sustainability Living Lab", students and staff came together to co-create ideas that drive real impact across IMU.

In just 2 hours, 48 passionate minds collaborated, shared perspectives, and sparked ideas for meaningful change, laying the foundation for a more sustainable campus 🌿

Every voice mattered. Every idea counted.

Thank you for being part of something bigger than ourselves—now let’s turn these ideas into action 💚

Late post, but too good not to share! 🌿

We officially kicked off our new Thursday on Purpose (TOP) series with our first session, “Mindfulness for Wellbeing & Sustainability,” in January 2026. The session invited IMU staff to take a meaningful pause during lunchtime and reconnect with what matters most.

Thursday on Purpose (TOP) is a monthly lunchtime series designed as a midweek reset—bringing staff and students together for relaxed, engaging sessions to pause, learn something new, and recharge.

In our first session, participants explored simple mindfulness techniques, reflected on building positive daily habits, and discovered how personal wellbeing connects with sustainable living. 🤩🌏

THE BEST PART? Everyone left with a plant to care for—serving as a gentle reminder that, much like mindfulness, growth happens through small, consistent acts of care and attention.” 🌱
