The APAC Cybersecurity Fund in 🇧🇩

Congratulations to North South University on the inauguration of the NSU Cybersecurity Center (NSUCSC), a significant milestone in advancing cybersecurity education and strengthening digital resilience in Bangladesh.

Through hands-on learning, industry collaboration, and innovation, NSUCSC will play an important role in developing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and building a stronger cybersecurity ecosystem.

Implemented by The Asia Foundation with support from Google.org, the APAC Cybersecurity Fund is proud to support local partners working to strengthen cybersecurity capacity across Asia and the Pacific.

For many Vietnamese MSMEs, embracing digital transformation opens up new opportunities—but also exposes them to increasingly complex cybersecurity risks. From managing remote work systems to detecting phishing emails and protecting sensitive business data, digital safety is no longer optional, but essential. 🌐🔐💻

Ms. Châu Duy Nghi, from Thịnh Phú Furniture, understands how digital tools can help her business grow globally. Yet a cyber incident where hackers impersonated company leadership through email and attempted fraudulent transactions became a turning point. Through the Cyber Hygiene Training under the APAC Cybersecurity Fund, she strengthened her awareness and adopted practical solutions, from secure remote access and multi-factor authentication to building a culture of cybersecurity within her team. 🛡️💡

Today, cybersecurity is not just a technical issue for her business—it is a daily habit. From the workplace to her home, Ms. Nghi actively shares knowledge with her employees, peers, and family, helping build a safer digital environment for those around her.

Across Vietnam, the program is helping build a stronger digital foundation for micro and small businesses, reaching more than 155,000 MSMEs in 10 provinces through a mix of in-person, online, and self-paced learning. Together, these efforts are empowering entrepreneurs to navigate the digital world with greater confidence and resilience. 🇻🇳📊

📍The APAC Cybersecurity Fund in 🇹🇭

Through the APAC Cybersecurity Fund (ACF), The Asia Foundation met with Air Vice Marshal Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary General of the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA Thailand), alongside our local partners, มหาวิทยาลัยอุบลราชธานี Ubon Ratchathani University and the Social Technology Institute, to strengthen collaboration on cybersecurity capacity building in Thailand.

The meeting highlighted progress on training initiatives and curriculum development, while exploring opportunities to expand digital safety education to communities across the country.

Discussions also reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration in equipping individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills to navigate an increasingly complex digital landscape. 🤝

Later this year, a new public awareness video demonstrating how to report online scam cases will be released, providing practical guidance to help communities recognize and respond to cyber threats with greater confidence. 🛡️

🛒 Digital growth without security is creating new risks for MSMEs across Asia-Pacific.

As more businesses embrace e-commerce to reach new customers and markets, they are also becoming increasingly vulnerable to scams, fraud, and cyber-enabled crime.

Through the APAC Cybersecurity Fund, we have released a new policy brief exploring how the growing scam economy is impacting MSMEs across the region.

Here's what we're seeing:

🛡️ Small businesses are the backbone of economies across Asia-Pacific, but in today's digital world, resilience means more than growing a business. It also means staying safe online.

This International MSME Day, we celebrate entrepreneurs like Thanaphon Sai-on, a seasonal fruit vendor at the Nong Wua So Municipal Market in Thailand. She once skipped phone updates and rarely questioned unfamiliar calls or messages. Today, after participating in the APAC Cybersecurity Fund (ACF), she uses tools like the WhosCall app and has adopted safer digital habits that help protect both her business and her customers. 📱

Across the region, ACF is helping build that same confidence at scale:

🔹 548,815 individuals trained in cyber hygiene
🔹 486,066 organizations equipped with tools to protect their businesses
🔹 472 students guided to use digital platforms safely and responsibly
🔹 19 Cyber Clinics established in higher education institutions across Asia and the Pacific.

When MSMEs have the knowledge and confidence to navigate the digital world safely, they are better positioned to , , and strengthen the communities they serve.

📍The APAC Cybersecurity Fund in 🇻🇳

The Asia Foundation’s Vietnam office successfully organized the Women Leaders Business Forum 2026, themed “Women and Digital Trust,” on June 17, 2026, in Hanoi. As a policy event under the ACF project framework, the forum convened more than 150 representatives from government agencies, private sector partners, and development organizations to discuss key policy challenges and opportunities for strengthening digital resilience among women-led MSMEs.

The event featured opening remarks by Ms. Erin Steinhauer, Country Representative of The Asia Foundation Vietnam, and a technical presentation by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, Senior Program Specialist, on “Digital Trust for Women-Led MSMEs: Awareness, Skills, and Ecosystem Support.” The forum provided a platform to share project insights, highlight emerging risks in the digital economy, and advance evidence-based recommendations to enhance cybersecurity capacity and financial inclusion, while fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote a more enabling policy environment for inclusive and sustainable business growth.

A key milestone of the event was the signing of an MOU between Doanh Nhân Nữ (VWEC) and the Cybersecurity Magazine under the National Cybersecurity Association (NCA). This collaboration, facilitated by The Asia Foundation, represents an important step in advancing cybersecurity awareness and support for MSMEs, especially women-owned/led ones.

As MSMEs across Vietnam accelerate their digital transformation journey, cybersecurity must grow alongside it.

With Vietnam’s digital transformation agenda aiming to support 500,000 MSMEs by 2030, building cyber resilience is becoming a business imperative, not a technical afterthought.🛡️

On 15 April, The Asia Foundation, together with the National Cyber Security Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, convened the forum "Safe Digital Future for Small and Medium Enterprises" to strengthen dialogue on protecting MSMEs in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

The forum brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and cybersecurity experts to spotlight a growing reality: for MSMEs, cyber incidents can directly impact operations, customer trust, and long-term sustainability. 📈

As part of the APAC Cybersecurity Fund program, this dialogue reflects our commitment to supporting MSMEs across the region with the knowledge, tools, and resilience needed to grow safely in the digital economy.
