As MSMEs across Vietnam accelerate their digital transformation journey, cybersecurity must grow alongside it.

With Vietnam’s digital transformation agenda aiming to support 500,000 MSMEs by 2030, building cyber resilience is becoming a business imperative, not a technical afterthought.🛡️

On 15 April, The Asia Foundation, together with the National Cyber Security Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, convened the forum "Safe Digital Future for Small and Medium Enterprises" to strengthen dialogue on protecting MSMEs in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

The forum brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and cybersecurity experts to spotlight a growing reality: for MSMEs, cyber incidents can directly impact operations, customer trust, and long-term sustainability. 📈

As part of the APAC Cybersecurity Fund program, this dialogue reflects our commitment to supporting MSMEs across the region with the knowledge, tools, and resilience needed to grow safely in the digital economy.

Scaling the ACF Cyber Clinic in Vietnam📍🛡️

Last week, the APAC Cybersecurity Fund (ACF) team in Vietnam witnessed the launch of its Cyber Clinic at Đại học Bách khoa Hà Nội - Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a hands-on model bringing cybersecurity learning closer to real-world business needs.

The ACF initiative is designed to strengthen digital resilience among MSMEs by connecting universities, students, and small businesses through practical, applied support. In this model, students are trained and deployed to work directly with MSMEs, helping them better understand and respond to everyday cyber risks while gaining valuable real-world experience.

Across 7 provinces, the program will train 80–100 students and support 200–300 MSMEs, creating a strong bridge between education and enterprise needs in Vietnam’s growing digital economy.

As Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh shared at the launch, “the Cyber Clinic model connects training with practice, creating an environment where learners can apply their professional knowledge in real business contexts, while also ensuring that businesses receive practical and relevant support in strengthening their cybersecurity readiness.”

Small businesses are at the heart of India’s economy—but as more go digital, many face new and evolving risks.

🔒 Gaps in cybersecurity awareness and support can leave MSMEs—especially women-led and informal businesses—more vulnerable online.

Earlier this year, we partnered with Asia Pacific Consulting and Advisory (APCA) at the Global CyberPeace Summit to bring together entrepreneurs, technical experts, and civil society. Together, we explored practical ways to help MSMEs navigate these challenges and strengthen their digital resilience. 🌐

Through our work under the Google.org-supported APAC Cybersecurity Fund, we’re supporting MSMEs to adopt digital tools safely and confidently—helping build a more secure and future-ready economy.

Scaling the ACF Cyber Clinic in Pakistan📍🛡️

The APAC Cybersecurity Fund is partnering with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) to establish a new Cyber Clinic that will combine advanced student training with hands on support for local enterprises navigating digital risks.

Through this model, trained cohorts will provide practical, pro bono cybersecurity guidance to MSMEs, NGOs, and social enterprises, helping them better protect their systems, data, and customers as they scale online.

As 1️⃣ of 3️⃣ university anchored pilots in Asia Pacific, alongside Sri Lanka and Singapore, the Pakistan clinic reinforces the role of higher education institutions in building trusted digital ecosystems that underpin inclusive economic growth.

The APAC Cybersecurity Fund is an initiative by The Asia Foundation, supported by Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, designed to build inclusive and sustainable cybersecurity ecosystems across the Asia-Pacific region.

Our CyberClinics program is expanding to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Pakistan 🇵🇰

Through this new collaboration, another batch of aspiring cyber defenders will receive advanced cybersecurity training and then go on to support 300 small businesses, NGOs, and community organizations in strengthening their digital resilience. 🌐

Pakistan’s clinic is one of three university-based pilots across Asia-Pacific, alongside Sri Lanka and Singapore, helping protect livelihoods, safeguard data, and build trust in the country's rapidly growing digital economy.
