The program provided students with valuable exposure to Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem through industry engagement, academic exchange, and hands-on learning opportunities.

By connecting students with industry leaders, researchers, and academic partners, the field school highlights the importance of international collaboration in preparing future talent for a rapidly evolving global economy.

CanCham Malaysia was pleased to support and celebrate this initiative, which reflects the growing relationship between Canadian and Malaysian institutions in advancing knowledge, innovation, and cross-border partnerships.

is helping to build bridges between Canada and Malaysia through research and innovation

With recognized strengths in aerospace, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, Concordia University is working collaboratively with partners in Malaysia to advance innovation, experiential learning and international research opportunities. These efforts reflect a shared commitment to building knowledge partnerships between Canada and Malaysia in sectors shaping the future global economy.

Strategically located in Montreal - one of North America’s leading innovation and business hubs - Concordia has played an important role in supporting economic and technological development of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and internationally through cutting-edge training to the business community and collaborating with industry leaders on applied research and innovation projects. Concordia values partnerships that connect academia and industry to address emerging global challenges and create new opportunities for innovation.

A major milestone in this growing relationship will take place in May 2026, when Concordia launches its first-ever field school in Malaysia. Delivered in partnership with the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology, the program will explore the future of safety engineering through the integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning and aerospace applications. The field school will also provide students from Concordia and UniKL with opportunities to engage directly with Malaysian industry through experiential and project-based learning.

Concordia looks forward to exploring new opportunities for collaboration with Malaysian academic institutions, industry partners and the broader Canada–Malaysia business community.

A major milestone for Canadian business in the Indo-Pacific 🇨🇦🇲🇾

On 16 April 2026, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CanCham Malaysia) was proud to join 20 other chambers and business associations across the region in the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), officially forming the Canadian Chambers of the Indo Pacific—a unified network to amplify the voice of Canadian business across Asia.

Witnessed by Prime Minister Mark Carney, this historic initiative marks the first time Canadian chambers outside of Canada have come together in such a coordinated and strategic partnership.

As part of this network, CanCham Malaysia, under the leadership of President Nancy Fortner, is committed to strengthening trade and investment ties, fostering collaboration, and unlocking new opportunities between Canada and the Indo-Pacific region.

The CCIP will serve as a platform to:
• Advocate on key trade and investment issues
• Share knowledge and best practices across markets
• Drive joint initiatives, including trade missions and conferences
• Strengthen engagement with government and regional stakeholders

In an era of evolving global trade dynamics, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to building resilient, forward-looking economic relationships across borders.

Also, congratulations to Adam Janikowski and Brett Stephenson on this milestone!

We look forward to working alongside our fellow chambers, members, and partners to translate this achievement into meaningful impact for the Canadian and regional business community.
