SME Malaysia Calls for Stronger Cash Flow Support for SMEs in Budget 2027

As Malaysian SMEs continue to face rising operating costs and weaker consumer spending, 70–80% of SMEs are experiencing cash flow challenges, according to SME Malaysia National President Dr. Chin Chee Seong.

Speaking to RTM, Dr. Chin highlighted the need for practical and accessible support in Budget 2027, particularly:

• Short-term financing facilities of 3–6 months to ease temporary cash flow pressures
• Greater support for technology and AI adoption to improve productivity and reduce operating costs
• Measures to help businesses manage rising costs such as wages, EPF contributions, electricity, rent, transportation and fuel

With SMEs facing increasing costs while having limited room to raise prices, cash flow support is crucial to keeping businesses sustainable, competitive and resilient.

SME Malaysia hopes Budget 2027 will introduce targeted measures that give SMEs the breathing space they need to grow and move forward.

Our National President, Dr. Chin Chee Seong, was interviewed by BFM today to discuss the challenges facing Malaysian SMEs.

The discussion covered rising energy costs, the expanded SST, tighter financing, e-invoicing compliance, increasing competition from foreign players, and the need to improve SME productivity.

Dr. Chin also shared insights on whether the current SME definition should be updated to better support growing mid-tier businesses and ensure they continue to have access to relevant incentives.
