What if the Muslim world's most overlooked development model wasn't created by governments, economists, or startup accelerators?

Long before the language of social entrepreneurship, innovation hubs, and sustainable development existed, Sufi institutions were building decentralized networks of education, welfare, mediation, trade, and community support through trust, local knowledge, and waqf-funded initiatives.

These weren't merely spiritual centers. They were institutions that transformed moral commitment into lasting social and economic impact.

So why has this history been largely forgotten?

And what can today's conversations about entrepreneurship, development, and civil society learn from it?

This carousel explores the remarkable history of zawiyas, waqf, and what Dr. Mustapha Radji calls the forgotten tradition of decentralized development in the Muslim world.

📖 But this is only the beginning.

The full article goes much deeper into the relationship between Sufism, local knowledge, social trust, entrepreneurship, and the future of development across Muslim societies.

Don't just scroll past this history. Understand why it matters for the future.

Eid Mubarak from the Islam & Liberty Network 🌙

On this blessed day, our CEO shares a message of reflection, unity, and hope for communities across the Muslim world:

“Eid is not only a celebration — it is a reminder of our shared humanity, our responsibility toward one another, and the values that give meaning to freedom and faith. In times of division and uncertainty, may we continue to choose compassion over hatred, dignity over oppression, and understanding over silence.

As families gather today in joy and gratitude, we remember those facing hardship, displacement, and injustice across the world. May this Eid renew our commitment to mercy, service, and solidarity.

On behalf of the Islam & Liberty Network, I wish you and your loved ones peace, blessings, and a joyful Eid.”

Millions stand on the plains of Arafah today — equal in dress, equal in humility, equal before God.

Hajj is more than a journey across distance. It is a reminder that faith calls humanity beyond race, status, borders, and power. In a fragmented world, the pilgrimage becomes a living symbol of unity, sacrifice, reflection, and mercy.

As pilgrims gather in devotion, may this day renew our commitment to justice, compassion, dignity, and solidarity across the Muslim world.

From all of us at Islam & Liberty Network, we pray for accepted Hajj, answered prayers, and peace for all those seeking hope in difficult times.

Will societies choose fear, control, and coercion?
Or freedom, pluralism, accountability, and peace?

Ideas don’t shape the Muslim world overnight.
They grow through conversations, collaborations, research circles, conferences, and platforms that connect thinkers across borders.

From the Marrakesh Declaration to IAIS Malaysia, from Al-Shabaka to Edraak.world, intellectual networks continue to influence debates on governance, identity, pluralism, and liberty in quiet but powerful ways.

These networks matter because they prevent intellectual isolation, nurture emerging scholars, and create spaces where Muslim thought can evolve through dialogue rather than division.

The future of the Muslim world will not only be shaped by politics or institutions, but by the ideas exchanged in these ongoing conversations.

Read the full blog to explore how Muslim intellectual movements are formed and why they continue to matter today.
