The 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 (𝗖𝗚𝗜𝗠) successfully conducted a 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, MACC, Putrajaya, Malaysia., on 20 October 2026, with the participation of 𝟮𝟲 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗖 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Facilitated by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗱𝘂𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗱, the seminar explored key corporate governance principles, fiduciary duties, organisational responsibilities, ethics and integrity.

Through case studies and discussions on governance failures, participants examined the importance of 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and effective governance frameworks in strengthening anti-corruption efforts and fostering a culture of integrity within corporate entities.

Good governance goes beyond compliance — it is about building a culture where 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 guide every decision.

Malaysia’s latest competition law amendments may affect how businesses compete, pursue mergers, and manage regulatory risk. For boards, this is more than a legal update—it is a governance priority requiring 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘀 and 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.

The 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐚 (𝐂𝐆𝐈𝐌) was represented at the 𝗠𝘆𝗖𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄” by CGIM President 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗿, Immediate Past President 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗼’ 𝗔𝗸𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆, and CEO 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆. The Malaysia Competition Commission organised the session.

The amendments to the Competition Act 2010 and the Competition Commission Act 2010 reinforce the importance of 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 and 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Organised by the Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (Laman Rasmi), the dialogue brought together more than 240 participants, including company directors, company secretaries, professional bodies, business associations and government agencies, to discuss regulatory developments and challenges affecting the corporate and business community.

Key topics included the implementation of the Corporate Registry System (CRS), compliance initiatives, proposed amendments to the Companies Act 2016 relating to sustainability reporting, and a review of practice directives, practice notes and guidelines.

For CGIM, such engagements are important in strengthening collaboration with SSM and ensuring that the perspectives and practical concerns of the company secretarial profession are heard. They also provide valuable opportunities for our members to stay informed of regulatory developments, clarify compliance expectations and better prepare for changes that may affect their professional responsibilities.

CGIM remains committed to supporting its members through continued engagement with regulators, promoting professional excellence and contributing to a stronger corporate governance ecosystem in Malaysia.

The meeting focused on strengthening strategic collaboration and facilitating constructive dialogue on matters relevant to the profession.

Chaired by SSM Acting Chief Executive Officer Encik Rezy Izwan Ramly, the meeting brought together representatives from CGIM, the Malaysian Bar, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and the Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries (MACS).

The engagement strengthened strategic collaboration, exchanged perspectives, and fostered constructive dialogue on matters relevant to the profession and the wider corporate governance landscape.
