FMM President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok, accompanied by FMM Deputy President Dato Andrew Goh Boon Kim, FMM Vice President Datuk Noraini Binti Soltan, Chairman of FMM Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Branch Dr Helena Eian Yeut Lan and FMM CEO Datuk Dr Yeoh Oon Tean, received a courtesy call by His Excellency Dharshana Mahendra Perera, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia on August 10, 2026.

The discussion focused on strengthening Malaysiaโ€“Sri Lanka bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The High Commissioner also introduced the upcoming Sri Lanka Economic & Investment Summit 2026, scheduled for October 12โ€“13, 2026, and highlighted Sri Lanka Expo 2027, taking place from January 14โ€“17, 2027, at BMICH, Colombo, as a key trade and investment event. FMM was pleased to welcome the Malaysia Pallet Association (MPA) for a courtesy call at Wisma FMM on August 6, 2026. Led by FMM President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok and MPA President Mr Loong Kam Shing, the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on developments and challenges facing the pallet industry and explore potential areas of collaboration. Discussions covered technical and skills development, ESG and sustainability, automation and digitalisation, industry advocacy, business matching and the sharing of manufacturing best practices.

The engagement marks a positive step towards strengthening cooperation between FMM and MPA and supporting the continued development of Malaysiaโ€™s manufacturing and supporting industries.

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) successfully organised a briefing session on โ€œNew Stamp Duty Guidelines: Key Implications for Businessesโ€ on July 31, 2026, providing businesses with valuable insights into the latest developments in Malaysiaโ€™s stamp duty framework.

The session highlighted the key changes introduced under the new guidelines, focusing on stamp duty compliance, valuation principles, adjudication requirements, and their practical implications for businesses.

The briefing featured insightful presentations by Ms Chan Kwan Yee, Executive Director of BDO Malaysia and Ms Ivy Ling Yieng Ping, Partner of Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG) Advocates and Solicitors, who shared their expertise on the evolving regulatory landscape and practical considerations to help businesses navigate the latest requirements.

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) was pleased to welcome a delegation from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), led by Ir. Prof. Dato' Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, President of UTAR, for a courtesy visit to Wisma FMM on 24 July 2026.

The delegation was received by FMM President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok, President Emeritus YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' (Dr) Soh Thian Lai, FMM Deputy President Dato' Andrew Goh, FMM Vice Presidents and senior management.

During the visit, both parties discussed the way forward in strengthening industryโ€“academia collaboration to support the transformation of Malaysia's manufacturing sector. FMM shared its four strategic pillars, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in joint research and policy advocacy on issues affecting manufacturers, the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, automation, robotics and cybersecurity, market expansion and internationalisation, as well as the development of industry-ready talent and future leaders.

UTAR presented a comprehensive collaboration framework encompassing research and innovation, human capital development, talent and entrepreneurship, and curriculum enhancement. Proposed initiatives include joint research, laboratories and innovation projects, consultancy and commercialisation, postgraduate and professional training programmes, micro-credentials, industry attachments, internships, graduate recruitment, guest lectures, entrepreneurship initiatives, as well as industry participation in curriculum development through advisory panels, work-based learning and flexible teaching arrangements to better prepare graduates for the evolving needs of industry.

Looking ahead, FMM and UTAR agreed to explore strategic collaborations in joint research and innovation, including the establishment of research laboratories and centres to support SME adoption of smart manufacturing and emerging technologies. Both parties also discussed collaborating on industry lecture series, entrepreneurship initiatives, FMM RDI Conference 2027, and postgraduate programmes to strengthen industryโ€“academia linkages and develop future-ready manufacturing talent.

The visit also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FMM and UTAR, formalising a strategic partnership to foster closer industryโ€“academia collaboration through research, innovation, talent development and knowledge exchange.

Together, FMM and UTAR look forward to translating this partnership into meaningful initiatives that will strengthen industry capabilities, nurture future-ready talent, and enhance the competitiveness and resilience of Malaysia's manufacturing sector.

FMM, led by President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok, together with FMM President Emeritus Tan Sri Datoโ€™ Dr Soh Thian Lai and members of the FMM Council, welcomed Prof. Henrik von Scheel, Founder of Strategic Intelligence and Originator of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and his delegation to Wisma FMM on July 23, 2026 for a Special Strategic Outlook Session.

Prof. Henrik shared broad perspectives on major global economic and technological shifts, the changing future of industry and the strategic opportunities arising for Malaysiaโ€™s manufacturing sector. FMM President Mr. Jacob Lee Chor Kok delivered the Opening Address at AFFIN Trade Talk 2026, held today at Menara AFFIN @ TRX, which brought together industry leaders, financial institutions and business professionals to discuss strategies for navigating an increasingly complex global trade environment.

In his address, Mr. Jacob shared FMMโ€™s perspectives on the challenges facing Malaysian manufacturers, including rising logistics costs, supply chain disruptions, working capital pressures and the need for greater collaboration between industry and financial institutions. He also highlighted the important role of trade finance, digital banking solutions and advisory support in strengthening business resilience and enhancing the competitiveness of Malaysian manufacturers.

FMM Vice-President Ir. Ter Leong Leng also participated as a panelist in the forum session titled โ€œNavigating Global Trade Challenges & Market Uncertaintyโ€,alongside representatives from AFFIN Group, MATRADE and the Malaysian Export Academy (MEXA). FMM President Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok had a courtesy meeting with Mr Wayne Lian Wei Chun, President of the Malaysian Knitting Manufacturers Association (MKMA) and Chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Fashion, Textiles and Apparels (FMFTA), the national umbrella body representing Malaysia's fashion, textiles, and apparel industry, on July 20, 2026, at MIDA Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur.

The meeting was attended by FMFTA Council Members, Ms Rozita Ibrahim, Director of the Building Technology & Lifestyle Division of MIDA, and key representatives from MIDA.

Both parties explored potential collaboration to strengthen Malaysia's fashion, textiles, and manufacturing ecosystem. Discussions focused on enhancing industry competitiveness, promoting innovation and sustainability, supporting talent development, strengthening industry advocacy, and creating greater business and trade opportunities through closer industry collaboration.
