💜 WHAT IF THEY FORGET YOUR NAME… BUT YOU NEVER FORGET WHO THEY ARE?
21 September | World Alzheimer’s Day 2026
Alzheimer’s disease can take away memories.
But it does NOT take away a person’s dignity, emotions, relationships or worth.
As geriatricians, we often remind families:
🧠The memory may fade.
❤️ The person remains.
Behind every diagnosis is someone who has lived a lifetime of stories, loved people, built families, contributed to communities and shaped the lives of others.
And behind them is often a caregiver who is learning, adapting, worrying and loving, every single day.
This World Alzheimer’s Day, let’s do more than talk about memory loss.
đź’ś KNOW the signs.
đź’ś SUPPORT people living with dementia and their caregivers.
đź’ś INCLUDE them in everyday life.
đź’ś ADVOCATE for better dementia care.
Because a dementia-friendly community is not simply a place where people with dementia are safe.
It is a place where they are: Seen. Heard. Respected. Included.
Dementia changes the journey.
It does not erase the person.
đź’ś Because they are still them.
