In August 2010, Angeline Lee, who was a second-year medical student in the UK at the time, came up with the idea of founding Charisma Movement.

Charisma Movement is a youth-led organization created to encourage volunteerism by providing a reliable and sustainable framework for community service & leadership projects to be carried out in Malaysia. She had been volunteering in Vietnam & was keen to collaborate with the host organisation. However, as they were based in the US, there were too many logistical difficulties. Hence, she realised

that she would have to do this on her own. Angeline decided to start a group in the UK, which is where she would be studying and then working for the long term. She decided to select Malaysian beneficiaries, as it is her country of origin and connections had already been forged with the volunteering organisations there. The only things left were funding and support, as she was aware that many people would be suspicious of going to a foreign country with a new organisation without legitimate sponsorship. Successfully securing funding from UKEC, she quite fittingly decided to name UKECharisma. Angeline’s initial vision was for UKECharisma to be a standalone charity organisation that would help realise ideas of projects pitched by volunteers from the general public. Nevertheless, to begin, Angeline came up with an educational project in SK Seri Setia and a health project with the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory (SCASFT) which ran very successfully between June and July 2011. Fast forward to today, Charisma Movement has become an independent body having organised various projects ranging from education to environment and health awareness. We aim to continue flourishing as a self-sustaining non-profit organisation that is committed to combating global issues, one volunteering project at a time.

Instant noodles: quick, cheap, and satisfying… but are they actually healthy? 🍜🤔

While they’re super convenient, most instant noodles are high in sodium, low in essential nutrients, and often packed with preservatives. Regular consumption may contribute to health issues like high blood pressure and poor diet quality.

That doesn’t mean you have to ditch them completely—just upgrade them! Add veggies 🥬, protein 🍳, and go easy on the seasoning to make your bowl more balanced.

It’s not about cutting out your favorites, but making smarter choices. 💡

✍️ Young Wordsmiths Competition (YWC)
Empowering young voices through the power of writing.

The Young Wordsmiths Competition, organised by Charisma Movement, is dedicated to improving English literacy and writing skills among upper primary students from rural Malaysian schools.

Since 2023, YWC has reached students across East and West Malaysia, giving young leaders the opportunity to express their ideas, develop confidence, and discover their potential through writing.

• 6 successful competition terms (2023–2025)
• Over 1000 essay submissions
• Participation from 16 schools across 5 states
