This year, the World Health Organization (WHO)โs campaign theme โ โOne Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.โ โ reminds us that every blood donation is an act of solidarity, compassion, and shared responsibility.
For millions of worldwide, saves lives in emergencies. For people living with transfusion-dependent thalassaemia and other haemoglobinopathies, it sustains life every day making the safety, adequacy, and uninterrupted availability of blood a fundamental priority.
As 14 June approaches, the Thalassaemia International Federation - TIF honours every donor and calls for stronger, safer, and more sustainable blood systems worldwide, systems that ensure every patient has access to safe blood whenever and wherever it is needed.
is also co-organising an important event in Cyprus on 13 June 2026: the Final Workshop on the , organized in the context of World Blood Donor Day and held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. The workshop will present โs new National Blood Strategy, marking an important step forward for blood safety, adequacy, and optimal use of blood and blood products.
