Yayasan Chow Kit is a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children of Chow Kit. n 2006, what started out as an expansion of a government-run day care centre, grew into a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre, providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children

of Chow Kit. Four years later, there are now additional two centres providing quality care and services to children ranging from babies to young adults. Our experience of working at the grassroots level has led to the discovery of an array of multi-faceted socio-cultural issues affecting such diverse groups of people living in Chow Kit. Realising that in order to provide a better facilitation of issues the community is facing, it paved the way for an establishment of an organisation that is based within the area in addition to having a structured and sustainable development of community-based programmes. Thus that was how Rumah NurSalam, in its previous incarnation as a project under Yayasan Salam, has now become an entity in its own right, in the form of Yayasan Chow Kit, established in January 2011. The foundation’s vision ‘to improve the lives of at-risk children and youth’ has aptly summed up our aspirations for the community we serve in Chow Kit.

Day 2 of the APPGM Child Rights Malaysia Symposium.
This session’s discussions on statelessness reminded us of a simple but urgent truth: many children born, raised, and living in Malaysia are still denied legal identity and recognition.

Speakers stressed that the aburden of proof should never fall on the child. Instead, it is the responsibility of systems and institutions to ensure every child has a birth certificate, an identity, and access to their rights.

Because belonging should never be conditional.

Thank you everyone for tuning in to this Child Rights Symposium by APPGM and Parliament Malaysia.

Closing the session, Hon. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives, reminded us that discussions on children’s rights must not remain within conference spaces. They must translate into real legislative action, accountability, and a sustained national commitment to children.

We hope you enjoyed all the key takeaways from this symposium.

Hoping for a better Malaysia because Malaysia will be better when we start listening to children. Let’s make space, and let’s hear them.

Updates from the APPGM Child Rights Symposium! 👏🏾

In this session, the conversations focused on children in immigration detention and what it means to truly uphold the principle of the best interests of the child. From judicial perspectives to civil society experiences and international standards under the CRC, the message was clear: child rights must come first.

This Child Rights Symposium is bringing children, youth, policymakers and advocates into the same room to talk about the issues that matter.
Because children shouldn’t just be at the receiving end of policies, they should be part of shaping them too.

What is one change you’d like to see for children and young people in Malaysia? 👇

Less than 2 days till D-day! In this video, we have APPGM-CR’s very own Nadiah Hanim, President of with Ambassador Jacques Warner of who will be giving the welcoming remarks at the Symposium on Children’s Rights.

If we don’t listen to children, we don’t just miss the problem, we design the wrong solutions.

We're quickly looking for a candidate to fit and be briefed as a suitable advocacy and fundraising officer that is crucial to our operations functioning in a way that is sustainable and ever growing in capability and capacity to serve the children that need it! 🤩

Looking forward to interviewing all of whom could be fitting for the role within a week or so! 😊 Can't wait. 💕✨

Two children. One urgent need for continued care.

Some of you have already stood with Sadiq and Yousup before.

Because of that support, both boys were able to continue receiving some level of critical medical care or hope that they would someday.

4 year old Sadiq

Sadiq was born with a complex congenital heart condition. His condition worsened after becoming ill as an infant, and today he requires ongoing monitoring and a life-saving heart surgery. The estimated cost is RM100,000. An amount that feels discouraging but we've seen what people coming together can do even in the littlest of efforts and contributions, consistently. 🙌🏾

Yousup, who is having ongoing heart care

Yousup has been receiving treatment for a serious heart condition, but the funds previously raised have now been fully utilised. He still needs follow-up treatment and specialist care, with approximately RM40,000 needed to continue his medical journey. A journey that we know can come to a happy ending especially when we've already come this far to make it work! 🥹

These are not optional treatments. They are the care these children need to stay stable, keep fighting, and have the chance to grow up.

❤️ Today, we’re asking for one more push. Whether you choose to support Sadiq or Yousup, every contribution helps move a child closer to the treatment they urgently need.

Solid Sunday y'all! 🌻 This is an event that really really could use some volunteers to help us with the much needed photography, videography and note taking to help document all the priceless moments and takeaways from the day. 📸🎥

It'll be the Civil Society with Children Town Hall: How to Use CRC Standards for Children’s Rights in Current Contexts that YCK will be hosting at YCK Hall as part of the larger Symposium on Child Rights Legal Reform & Civil Society Engagement involving YSD, Parliament, SUHAKAM, international experts from Leiden University, APPGM-CR, and various civil society partners. Sounds like a mouthful, and we're doing all we can to make it wonderful. 🤩

So we'd really really appreciate it if any of you would be able to come help support our efforts on the day. 🥰 There will also be a briefing on the 3rd at 2PM at our centre which would be good to attend as well, but we'll be happy enough to have you on the 12th if you can make it in any way possible. 😊
