World Piece

World Piece As a quantity surveyor by profession, Margaret Tan (Poh Ying), has been actively involved in this field since graduated from her degree study. If not now, when?

World Piece (WP) formed in February 2017, and officially launched on 20 May 2017, as a non-profit organisation, we strive to become one of the supporting channels to those in need. Despite the busy work schedule and carrying out the role as a mother of two children, Margaret, has decided to venture into this hobby of hers since she was a child. Margaret Tan hopes to achieve a breakthrough of her l

ife before entering another stage of the present path. The interest and sense for art has been crosspassing with Margaret since childhood time. But why saw dust? “When I were still a little girl, I love starring at the pencil dust, they were so lovely and unique. Even when I was working at the construction site, I were so sorry to see those saw dust sitting at a corner waiting to be disposed.”. In her mind, those are the beautiful items which are not being appreciated and making good use of. During one fine day in 2016, this one idea struck Margaret’s mind, which she gathered the pencil dust of her daughter’s and trying to create the very first art piece with the unwated waste / dust. Margaret Tan, with the ambitious to combine her interest and the love to the society or to be exact the minority groups which had been ignored all this while, some concentration and contribution from the sociaety will have a great impact on those in need; as well as to coincide with the Mother’s Day month, here comes the inspiration to host her very first art showcase on 20 May 2017. To put together 18 pieces of her art pieces from the pencil and aw dusts on this day, with the hope that those pieces would be able to fall into the hand of the people who would appreciate the work made out of the most insignificant or unappreated material. Intention of the showcase is not meant to gather regconition from the ground / society, the one purpose about the showcase is to share with others, what I think I could do best, ie creation of lively art piece, according to Margaret. Women’s potrait will be the main theme for this time, these are the women whom have great influence thoughout Margaret Tan’s lifetime.
