2 Timothy 3:16 tell us where our ministry-focus should be in people helping. God’s Word supplies all that we need to know Him rightly and to live a life fully pleasing to Him through faith in Jesus Christ. There are four uses of Scripture that give a clear roadmap for ministering God’s grace to others:

Purpose #1: God’s Word teaches us what is true
The Bible teaches us comprehensive truths about God, people, sin and its effects, and the hope in Christ. Even in matters not directly addressed, Scripture equips people with an accurate framework for rightly understanding all of human life before God.

Purpose #2: God’s word exposes wrong beliefs
When Paul says that Scripture is useful for reproof, he means for someone to be convicted over false beliefs, so that he or she might repent of believing what is false and embrace what come in line with the truth.

Purpose #3: God’s Word confronts sin in our lives
Reproof and correction are connected uses of Scripture to help rescue counselees from wrong belief as well as sinful behavior expressed externally. Our actions reflect the true motivations of our heart.

Purpose #4: God’s Word equips us in Godly living
Amid the temptation of inaction and apathy, Scripture teaches us what it is like to follow Christ in daily life and it moves us toward the goal of Christlikeness.

By God’s grace and help, those we counsel will one day counsel, disciple, or care for others, for God’s glory.
