*"Sound of Hope" in KL and Singapore*

We are having multiple screenings of *Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot* in Singapore and Malaysia! Come and discover how a church made a God-sized impact for children and families, and how the Lord may be inviting His people to respond with compassion, courage, and action.

*Meet the Producers*: We are honoured to have the filmmakers, *Rebekah and Joshua Weigel*, joining us in both countries to share the story behind the film and their heart for this movement.

Meet locally. Connect globally.
On Friday, July 17, 2026, the WWO Community Gatherings will bring leaders together across regions to grow in vision, learn from one another, and strengthen local connections for children and families.

On 6–7 June 2026, during the World Weekend of Prayer, we remember that children are not an afterthought in God’s Kingdom. They are precious to Him. As families and churches pray with children and for children, hope rises and communities learn to make room for safety, love, and belonging.

Let us pray with faith for every child who needs protection, for every caregiver who needs strength, and for every family to be supported with love.

🙏 for Myanmar - more support is needed for her people amid conflict and a multifaceted crisis!

Following extracted from UN article dated 13 March 2026

"According to the UN relief coordination office, OCHA, nearly one-third of Myanmar’s population now requires humanitarian assistance and more than 12 million people face acute hunger.

More than 3.6 million people are displaced nationwide as fighting spreads across several regions, including Sagaing, Magway, Chin, Bago and Kayin, where intense clashes and airstrikes continue to drive people from their homes.

Civilian casualties are also rising.

The UN human rights office, OHCHR, reports that airstrikes attributed to Myanmar’s armed forces killed at least 982 civilians in 2025 – a 53 per cent increase compared with the previous year – including 287 children."

More than five years after Myanmar’s military coup, international resolve to hold the junta accountable must not weaken, an independent human rights expert warned on Friday, as escalating violence and growing humanitarian needs push millions of civilians deeper into crisis.

🌱 A New Thing (Isaiah 43:19)

As we planned for our 1st ever WWO SEA Regional Leaders Online Gathering, we felt that we need a “new thing” over our region.

Yesterday, 42 leaders from across Southeast Asia gathered for the first-ever World Without Orphans Southeast Asia Regional Leaders Learning Community. Together with friends from Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and Hong Kong who came as speakers and supporters, we had representatives from 10 countries. Pastor Kathy and Audrie co-hosted this.

We heard moving testimonies of Alongsiders, Step Ahead, adoptive families and communities stepping forward to support vulnerable children. There were moments that brought tears to our eyes as we witnessed the power of ordinary people choosing to care.

Some key insights and encouragement :
💧 “5 loaves and 2 fish” can be multiplied - Lubo, Global Coordinator for Ambassadors, WWO Global team
💧”Children are not an afterthought in His Kingdom.” - Praveen, WWO Global Team
💧 “To address orphanhood, we need to enable vulnerable children to have a family” - Audrie, WWO SEA Regional Ambassador
💧”What is in your hand?” (That can contribute to this mission) - Faby, WWO East Asia Regional Ambassador
💧 A community is “God’s design, shared calling and enables greater impact” - Shamindra, Sri Lanka Without Orphans National Facilitator

We are reminded that - The problem with vulnerable children and families is so big that no one organisation, no matter how great, can solve it.

And as we continue this journey, we leave with Pastor Kathy’s inspiring words 💕:

“The children cannot wait for perfect systems or strategies. They need people who are willing to act now, love now, collaborate now, and lead now.”

We are thankful for everyone who collaborated to make this possible and all participants who came!

🚀A new wind is blowing - Every child growing to their God-given potential in loving families and communities.

We were glad that our SEA Regional Ambassador, Audrie Siew, could be part of a meaningful training on preparing foster, adoptive, and kinship carers for vulnerable children in Kathmandu, Nepal.

As partnerships across Southeast Asia continue to grow, we hope that a training like this can help ongoing efforts to strengthen family-based care initiatives!

Grateful to Ruby from World Without Orphans Global team and Karen Grace Paul for their excellent training. There was also much learning from the sharing by passionate participants across South Asia working tirelessly to protect children, strengthen families, and help every child grow up in safe and loving communities.

Special thanks to Anu, South Asia Without Orphans - WWO and the Nepal team for the warm hospitality and friendship.

Yes, children belong in families! Sharing this for friends in Thailand who may find this useful.

Children Belong in Families, Not Institutions

In Thailand, more than 135,000 children are growing up in residential care. Research suggests that up to 90% have at least one parent. In most cases, children are separated from their families not because they are orphans, but because their families face poverty, crisis, or lack of support.

But there is a better way.

When vulnerable families receive practical support, parenting guidance, and encouragement, children can remain safely at home—where they belong.

Many people have asked for this training in English, and we are excited to make it available to social workers, NGO staff, church and community leaders, and anyone passionate about strengthening families and preventing unnecessary separation.

During this interactive training, you will learn:
1. Practical tools to assess and support vulnerable families
2. Evidence-based strategies to prevent child-family separation
3. Trauma-informed approaches to family strengthening
4. Case management techniques and home visiting tools
5. Ways to build safer, healthier, and more nurturing homes for children

Whether you work in child protection, anti-trafficking, community development, or pastoral care, this training will equip you with practical skills you can immediately apply in your own context.

Glad that WWO SEA could be part of the pre-service training organised by South Asia Without Orphans in Nepal! This training covers systems related issues in preparing foster and adoptive parents who are taking in children from hard places.

Do PM us to let us know if you have been thinking of starting foster and adoptive support either in churches or NGOs and need such training!

We want to say thank you to Malaysian friends and organisations (Dignity Foundation, El Shaddai, The Salvation Army Malaysia, Asia Evangelical Alliance, SWWB, DUMC, Praxis, Espresso Lab) for taking the time to share your heart and also feeding us good food like Klang Bah k*t Teh, “atas” cakes and pasta! Wow… stomach is well fed! Most importantly, it was real great to meet so many like hearted people!

We leave inspired by Malaysia’s “can do” spirit and the deep heart for vulnerable children and families. So many Christian organisations and leaders we met carried a heart for redemptive care — restoring families and bringing hope to children. So much meaningful work is happening on the ground!

As it says in James 1:27, caring for the vulnerable is close to God’s heart — and we see this lived out so beautifully here.

We look forward to growing collaborations in Malaysia, as we journey together toward a world without orphans. See you again soon! 🌏💛
