Engineers Without Borders Malaysia (EWBM) is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 and registered under Malaysian Law in 2013. Our mission is to leverage the expertise of engineering students and professionals in Malaysia to implement sustainable engineering projects that benefit local, underprivileged communities, with a focus on environmental sustainability and community empowerment. affiliated with Engineers Without Borders – International, a globally recognized federation. Our vision is to ensure that all Malaysians have access to the six basic human needs: water, food, shelter, power, education, and healthcare. Three days on the ground in Long Kahoo, Baram, learning from the community and designing solutions together! 🌱

Seasonal landslides regularly cut off the village’s only water source, so this visit focused on designing a practical, long-term solution together with local residents, with the support of Mubadala Energy and UNDP.

Over the assessment, our team mapped the site using drones, planned a 5,400L storage system to provide emergency water supply, and designed a filtration and pumping network to deliver clean, pressurised water directly to homes. Our team also began groundwork for satellite connectivity to support education, safety, and local livelihoods.

Most importantly, the community is at the centre of the build, from planning to construction, ensuring the system is owned, understood, and sustained locally.

Thank you to the people of Long Kahoo for welcoming us and working alongside us throughout the process. Installation comes next, and we look forward to sharing the journey ahead!
