The Malaysia-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce recently had the opportunity for a breakfast engagement with Edward Ling, the newly appointed CEO of TalentCorp Malaysia.
The discussion covered key talent mobility initiatives, including the Employment Pass (EP), Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T), Returning Expert Programme (REP), and other national efforts—many of which originated from forward-looking policies introduced during the time of Johan Merican.
As with any long-standing framework, there are legacy challenges that continue to evolve. We appreciate Edward’s strong private sector background and his commitment to national service—an encouraging example of leadership focused on building, not just critiquing.
Can processes be improved further? Certainly. However, public policy—especially in talent and immigration—requires a careful balance of multiple priorities.
We extend our best wishes for his continued leadership and wisdom in this role. As a Chamber, we remain committed to supporting such efforts, fostering constructive dialogue, and strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors. This is the way forward for sustainable growth and regional connectivity.
