For many Malaysians, palliative care is still closely associated with death. It is often viewed as something reserved for patients in their final days – when treatment has failed and there is “nothing more to do”.
But medical experts say that perception misses the true purpose of palliative care entirely.
Rather than focusing only on the end of life, palliative care is designed to improve quality of life for people living with serious or chronic illnesses by helping manage pain, emotional distress, and the wider challenges illness brings to both patients and families.
