Malaysia has never had an official policy on refugees but has a history of housing them over the decades from the Vietnamese boat people, the Bosnians, Rohingya and many other countries in Africa and the Middle East.
Refugees have always lived in Malaysia as invisible ppl, sometimes even criminalised- and without clear policy that allows them to fully function as part of society tension and friction between them and locals will happen.
What we desperately need is clear policy and framework that governs and protects refugees while they are in Malaysia. The 🇲🇾 Gov is piloting and implementing the DPP so let’s hope we finally have a comprehensive plan.
